There were a lot of Porters, weren't there?
It looked like the Navy had three gun explosions in 1904.
I'm thinking the smokeless, or brown, powder they started using about that time was more volatile?

Here's the really nutty one.
FLEXDECK
A rubber, inflatable(?) deck surface that allowed planes without propellers to dispense with the weight of landing gear.
The U.S. Navy tried the practice out using F9F Panthers IIRC.

It's amazing how little modification was required to prepare first generation jets like the F-80 and Vampire for sea duty.

If you’re in St Croix, and want to go on a slow, long, lazy dive, the pier is the place to go.
