I didn't feel it, but the @raspishake.bsky.social at the University of #Edinburgh did.

Gravity meter at the University of #Edinburgh picked up a quake in Indonesia this morning. Signal was not visible on our @raspishake.bsky.social .

. . . and proper sunrise going on when I reached the University of #Edinburgh Kings Buildings. (3/3)
November 26, 2025 at 8:46 AM
Still quite dark when I got to the Meadows . . . (2/3)
November 26, 2025 at 8:46 AM
We are properly into the grim depths of winter now. Sunrise only just starting when I got off the train at #Edinburgh Waverley, even though we are off summer time and on GMT. (1/3)

Christmas cake baked!

Quake in #Bangladesh earlier today detected in #Edinburgh on both the @raspishake.bsky.social and gravity meter. (The quake in the last hour near Japan shows on the gravity meter but not on the Raspberry Shake.)

Proof of @ucuedinburgh.bsky.social strike day jam making. It even went a vaguely @ucu.org.uk pink sort of colour.

It is a fab combo. See also this one ( www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm211137 ) which looks as if someone tried to destroy it, but failed because the stone is so hard. It is a first levelling mark from the mid-C19th. Later levellings made new marks on a nearby roadside wall. #BenchMarkMonday

Apparently it is Christmas already in our house.

Gravity plots working again at www.geos.ed.ac.uk/~hcp/gravity/

Today's trace shows waves from yesterday's quake in Japan, and from a smaller one this morning.
November 10, 2025 at 11:20 AM
Shows in #Edinburgh, just about. Would probably be clearly visible on the gravity meter, but the processing chain is stuck in a way that I need to get the IT team to fix :-(

Remembrance Sunday: time for my annual sneak down the west attic of @stmaryskirk.bsky.social to check when the war memorial service is over, preceded by some nice half-muffled Grandsire Doubles. (1/2)

This row of cherry trees in the Meadows, #Edinburgh are providing their second week of colour of the year. It is a pity that as I was going past, the light was as flat and dull as it could possibly be without actually being dark.

It's #benchmarkMonday ! This very tidy example is near the University of #Edinburgh King's Buildings.

(It is this one: www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm26548 )

Splendid rainbow this morning as I crossed the Royal Mile ( #Edinburgh ) on my commute. That is the Bank of Scotland on the right, so maybe there really is a pot of gold at that end of the rainbow.
November 3, 2025 at 9:24 AM
Yesterday's quake in Afghanistan detected in #Edinburgh on the @raspishake.bsky.social . No signal from the gravity meter, sorry, it is stuck.

I am forever losing penknives so it was a nice change to find one (on a beach in Tunisia: bsky.app/profile/hugh... ) It was not usable until I dismantled it and bent the locking spring back to its original shape. I now need to find whether it is less legal to carry than a Swiss Army knife.

Clearing out the greenhouse today. A few last bits of produce coming in . . .

Message on the door of discontent has changed to ask people to return their national @ucu.org.uk strike ballot, now that we are past the date for the @ucuedinburgh.bsky.social local one. (1/2)
November 1, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Two quakes on the gravity meter trace yesterday at Univ of #Edinburgh GeoSciences. The second one (from Türkiye) shows up on the @raspishake.bsky.social as well; the first one (from the Caribbean) did not. (Current gravity data at www.geos.ed.ac.uk/~hcp/gravity/ )
October 28, 2025 at 8:38 AM
Our @raspishake.bsky.social in #Edinburgh failed to pick this one up; you must have yours in a much quieter environment. The lower-frequency waves showed up nicely on our gravity meter, though. (Ongoing data at www.geos.ed.ac.uk/~hcp/gravity/ )

Middle meadow walk, #Edinburgh, has definitely gone from summer to autumn over the last 5 weeks and is rapidly heading into winter.
October 27, 2025 at 11:48 AM
Winter definitely approaching. Venus bright in the pre-dawn sky as I left the house this morning.
October 22, 2025 at 5:56 AM
A follow up this evening was even louder.
