This is very personal to me as a German. The Berlin Apartment takes you through 100 years of history, seen from a small flat in my nation's capital.
It saw unrest, celebrations, war, was divided and reunited. All while there's people trying to find a place they can call "home".

I was never a big fan of telltale games. The style and format didn't really grab me. Founded by some of the veterans from there, AdHoc set out to carry on telltale's legacy.
And with Dispatch they have proven that they still have their storyteller's spark.

Supergiant had a lot to live up to making their first sequel, Hades 2.
Whether it fell short or exceeded its predecessor is a matter of debate.
But the part that everyone is in agreement on, is that Darren Korb has once again knocked it out of the park with a phenomenal soundtrack.

Clover Pit isn't hard to play, but it's very hard to win. Because: How would you even win at slots?
This rogue-lite one-armed bandit from hell keeps sending you to your death when you don't meet the absurd deadline.
But like any good gambler, I just KEPT. COMING. BACK.

The game that has taken the Puzzle-Solving community by storm this year is Blue Prince
A stylistic rogue-lite on the surface, it soon gives way to bigger and deeper riddles, much like the rooms of the mansion keep expanding before you, as you are exploring its halls.

Wanderstop is a game about finding yourself and finding out what it means to have a place in the world. As you in the role of Alta tend to the little tea shop, the clearing it resides in changes to reflect her journey of recovery, as well as revealing her dark past.

Bitcraft deserves mention, even as an Early Access title.
A very chill, laid-back MMORPG about rebuilding civilization. That is not a quick process and collaboration is paramount to succeeding. But if you bring even a few friends, you can literally level mountains.

The portability award goes to The Slormancer
This silly little ARPG with its humor and surprisingly deep buildcrafting merged all the crazyness of an endgame Path of Exile character with the simplicity of 2D pixel graphics, making it incredibly stable, even when taken on the road.

I have nominated Rimworld in the past for this category, but this year Ludeon deserve a mention, for the amazing Odyssey expansion. With the new ship mechanic offering to have a mobile base, the game takes on a whole new dynamic, letting me see biomes I've never visited before

The field of VR is making strides, albeit slowly.
Enhance have made a new foray into their exploration of Synesthesia.
Lumines Arise tries to recreate the effect of Synesthesia with a firework of sounds and visual effects, while staying quite a challenging puzzle game.

While it already seems like this game will win every award under the sun this year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is my GOTY because it HAS TO BE.
Like BG3 before it, may it be a beacon of orientation for the artform of games and continue to shine...
...for those who come after.

Reminds me a bit of Arctic Solar Halos.
Due to a mist of tiny ice crystals in the arctic air, light from the sun can get refracted an mirrored, appearing in the sky in multiple locations, including an "Under-Sun" below the horizon, which is only visible when flying, or on high elevation.

Same with many other bottoms like this, like from Island Sanctuary or even from the Mogstation.
