Went to my first Celtic festival last weekend in Tucson, and a couple from Paradise, CA, had a pop-up shop there. I lived in Chico for about 6 yrs (moons ago) and was devastated when the Camp Fire decimated Paradise. These folks lost everything in the fire and have rebuilt their lives there.

So, who has already created the AI guard dogs that will bite the legs off these cyber-attacking agents?
This is a wild development that should be catching the attention of every official in America.

Chinese state-sponsored hackers just launched the first coordinated cyberattack executed with AI agents autonomously targeting 30 organizations.

US needs to be ready.

“It’s just the flu”

Mask up, get vaxxed.
Warnings rise for U.S. as a severe flu strain causes outbreaks. A flu strain that emerged over the summer is causing unprecedented outbreaks in Japan, as well as in Canada and the U.K. The CDC hasn't provided insights on flu in the U.S. in nearly 2 months.

A bad thing is unfolding at NIH this week: It looks like the Trump administration is trying to replace key civil servant scientific leaders, the Institute Directors, with political hires. These directors control the NIH budget, tens of billions.

Even though I'm a few years out of that demographic, I would move in a heartbeat, but not because I hate the US. I just want a change and new experiences, even if just for a decade or so.
"In 2025, 40% of women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity. The current figure is four times higher than the 10% who shared this desire in 2014, when it was generally in line with other age and gender groups."
Record Numbers of Younger Women Want to Leave the U.S.
The percentage of younger women in the U.S. who express a desire to migrate permanently has surged in the past decade.

So there’s a particularly pernicious form of racist microaggression that recently came to my attention. One where white people will see a black person - particularly a black woman - in distress in public and refuse to help them or even acknowledge them.

A little bit of excitement from last night. The northern lights very rarely ever make it down into central California. Had to go out and see what I could capture.

I was waiting for this airplane to disappear into the red light with the expectation it would reappear five years from now with everyone on board the same age as they are now.
For those that wanted it with the airplane sound. 🎧

Bluesky says it suspended author Sarah Kendzior because she was "expressing a desire to shoot the author of an article."

But there's more to the story:

A user was banned for making a Johnny Cash reference. Where's the dividing line between serious threat and jokey pop culture reference?

Watching Good Morning, Vietnam. The end of the scene when Adrian's just delivered a "show" to trucks full of field-ready soldiers who all start saying their names before they drive off and become a blur always makes me cry because you know many of the boys they represented IRL never made it home.

As I was watching this and heard some familiar phrases used to describe neurodivergence, it made me wonder if neurodivergence is a factor in having the openness to experiences trait or if neurodivergent people would be/are more open to experiences.
The latest podcast is with psychologist and openness to experiences expert Ted Schwaba, who walks me through this mysterious, awe-inspiring (literally) personality trait substack.com/home/post/p-...
