Just come across this really useful list on the links between natural history and empire, featuring moi as ‘essential reading’. Perfect if you’re interested in museums or science more broadly too. Also ideal for passing to students as a starting point.

Beloved prof teaching Ethical Leadership at UBC gets fired for showing…ethical leadership.

🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻

Anti-Palestinian racism is surging on campuses. Its victims are many, its harms are real.
Believe it or not this all started with a class discussion about ethical leadership, this excellent quote from @cblackst.bsky.social (worth reading!), and @yipengge.bsky.social's case.

We need to address the culture of silence about Israel and Palestine.

Health and Health Care also threatened.

The University blames, among other factors, the impact of #Brexit.

Horrendous news from the University of Kent.
I am horrified that the University of Kent is planning the closure of many excellent programmes, including Anthropology, and is proposing up to 58 redundancies among academic staff! This further destruction of UK centres of academic excellence is heartbreaking.

Back to the Middle Ages. Blood libel conspiracies are vogue again apparently.
My latest piece: About how the Chabad tunnels story that at first seemed bizarre and humorous, quickly evolved into a Pizzagate-style far right conspiracy theory.

And how, due to Musk’s new Twitter polices, it spread like wildfire.
How Twitter activists turned a viral story about Orthodox Jews into a modern blood libel
White supremacists on Twitter have rebranded as "pro-Palestinian" activists in order to spread antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jews.

This is such a good piece by Alvin Tillery, especially in putting Gay's academic record in context.

Two points. Black students at Harvard, including Gay, were told that hate speech was protected. No problem with white students flying confederate flags on campus.

Fascinating that there is so much data about these remains - since so often collections of human remains focused on typology of skulls, etc rather than the individuals from whom they came. This will be an important research tool- thank you for your work on this inventory.
The Smithsonian holds nearly 31,000 human remains in storage but has never publicly released a full inventory. We spent months obtaining the documents and turning handwritten and typed memos into a searchable database: www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/int...
