Lost in the weeds of the WSJ report on Russian attempts to bribe the Trump administration with offers of bazillion dollar business deals are signs that various European intelligence services seem entirely aware of the details of conversations between Witkoff and the Russians

“In days after Alaska, a European intel agency distributed a hard-copy report in an envelope to some of the continent’s most senior national security officials, who were shocked by the contents: Inside were details of the commercial and economic plans the Trump admin had been pursuing with Russia.”

The Kremlin pitched the White House on peace through business. To Europe’s dismay, the president and his envoy are on board.

Some #astrobiology reading for a Saturday morning: I really enjoyed this pop sci BBC article on finding biology like mould and frogs (!) adapting to life in radioactive Chernobyl by increasing melanin, i.e. what shields human skin from UV rays 🧪🔭 ”Life, uh, finds a way”

The mysterious black fungus from Chernobyl that may eat radiation
Mould found at the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster appears to be feeding off the radiation. Could we use it to shield space travellers from cosmic rays?

Really interesting story about a brave man who illegally photographed Paris during the Nazi occupation.

Fascists still don't like being documented on film. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

How France uncovered the mystery of the forbidden photos of Nazi-occupied Paris

How we beat back the corporate takeover of America:

1. Break up corporate monopolies

2. Continue building union power

3. End Citizens United and get big money out of politics

Let’s keep working to unrig the system.

He has also said:

In light of Farage’s reversal to outright denial, and insistence that what we reported happened “50 years ago” when he was “just entering my teens”, it is worth highlighting the testimony of Andy Field, who started the ball rolling. Farage abused his position as a prefect at Dulwich to be racist.

ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.

Gove has been an extremely poisonous influence on our politics. Undermining expert consensus on Brexit [had enough of experts, etc] and lying his way through the whole process in the aftermath of the Referendum. A travesty that he is on this panel of judges assessing political writing.
I’m a past winner of the Orwell Prize & won partly because I exposed Vote Leave’s unlawful activities.

Michael Gove was its co-convener & refused to answer a single q. He’s now a judge of the prize & our world is truly one that Orwell would recognise

During his confirmation hearing, RFK Jr. swore under oath that he would not remove or alter CDC language stating that vaccines do NOT cause autism.

He lied.
The CDC website under RFK Jr. now argues that we “can’t say vaccines don’t cause autism” because studies haven’t ruled out every possible scenario.
It’s wild to see this misunderstanding of science on a federal health website, but it’s also an opportunity to explain how the scientific process works
