TV makers like to put a *lot* of tracking code in their systems (hence the Adguard comment in OP), I much prefer using it as a "dumb" display and just plugging in the smart stuff manually

what ssd have you got? cheap ones with tiny caches can wreck performance--or so I've heard, I've never experienced it myself

i have always just bought the WD blue NVMe/SATA (if you don't have an m.2 slot) drives & they work perfectly.

Though I think the killer feature (for me at least) is the "custom feeds" option. Instead of only having Following, Local, Federated feeds, there is a real "Discover"/"For Your" experience where I can see new things from people I don't follow + a giant list of custom community feeds.

The issue with Mastodon is that people are divided by their home servers and is truly "no algorithm" (pretty sure it is only chronological)

Bluesky is (despite the claims) far more centralized, where people only host their own data (the PDS), and Bluesky runs everything else (for now)

+ additionally, required-mutual wouldn't be much help to follow-happy users, of which I have encountered several, and would be ripe for targeting

Though I can forsee an abuse vector:

Users currently aren't notified if they are put into starterpacks, so malicious accounts could add abusive marks onto users w/o their knowledge (if a label is customizable)

Maybe a pack owner and a to-be pack member would need to be mutuals beforehand?

Maybe a labeler/starterpack-like system where an account can make verification "packs" that, upon user subscription, adds some label with some identifier to those in the pack.

Like twitters business verification, but users can pick their verifications, and pack owners can vet entry!
