#42: #ANS2024 is held in the Noongar season of Birak, the season of the young. Birak sees snakes and reptiles shed their skins, chicks leave the nest and young animals venture out It's also marked by the flowering of Moodjar, the WA Christmas tree.

#41: CY O'Connor is the man behind some of Western Australia's great feats of engineering, including Fremantle Harbour and the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme, a pipeline supplying water 566km from Perth to Kalgoorlie!

#40: Southern WA is one of the best spots in the world for whale watching! 🐋 Blue whales can be seen feeding in autumn, and humpback whales and their calves are currently migrating south to Antarctica, stopping to play and rest near Perth!

#39: The picturesque Swan Valley is just 25 minutes from Perth and accessible by public transport! It's the perfect spot to relax after #ANS2024 and try some local wine 🍷, chocolate and produce.

#38: In Perth we're glad when the doctor is in! The Fremantle Doctor is a cooling summer sea breeze which brings afternoon relief from the heat. This aeolian harp is designed to play a tune when the Doctor comes though.

#37: Tony Galati is the (Spud) King of Western Australia! Tony owns the Spudshed supermarket chain and always sports his iconic cutoff denim shorts and shirt. People even dress up as him at "Tony Galati Parties".

#36: Perth's signature sandwich is the Continental Roll! Dreamt up in the 1950s, the Conti Roll has a crusty roll, layers of deli meats, mozzarella and provolone, topped with marinated vegetables.

#35: Western Australia has some spectacular pink lakes! Beta-carotene producing algae give the lakes this amazing colour.

#34: Byron Kakulas AO was the father of 🇦🇺 neuropathology. Studying muscle wastage in the Quokka, his work led to current treatments for muscular dystrophy. Byron founded

#33: Thomas Danbo's Giants of Mandurah is an amazing installation of recycled and reclaimed woods. Dotted around Mandurah the giants are a delight for kids and adults alike!

#32: For the true crime junkies, no visit to WA is complete without a trip to World Heritage Fremantle prison, Australia's largest and best-preserved convict prison. Even Bon Scott of AC/DC was an inmate!

#31: Western Australia has one of the world's great long-distance walking tracks! Winding 100km from Kalamunda in the Perth hills to Albany down south, you can walk the whole Bibbulmun or tackle a section of this famous trail.

#30: The Perth Mint was established in 1899, 2 years before Australia's federation! It's still responsible for minting most of Australia's gold coins, and is home to the world's largest gold coin 🪙

#29: Perth is nicknamed the ✨city of light✨ for a very cool reason! In 1962 American astronaut John Glenn orbited earth. When Glenn flew over #Perth, everyone turned on their lights and Glenn could see the city sparkling from up in space!

#28: Balga (grass tree) is an unusual plant you'll notice everywhere in Perth and southwestern WA. Every couple of years a Balga grows a flower spike which can be up to 2.5m high!

#27: #ANS2024 will be held on Whajuk Noongar land (boodja). You might notice a lot of place names ending in -up in southern WA; the suffix means "place of" in Noongar language (wangkininy).

#26: South Western Australia is Australia's only Global Biodiversity Hotspot! 1/3 of Australia's native plant species are only found here, and 72 animal species are endemic to the region including the quokka, dibbler, and Carnaby's black cockatoo.

#22: Eliza is a #Perth 'It Girl'. Celebrating the former Crawley Baths in the Swan River, Eliza is over 7 ft and is often dressed up to celebrate local events and cheer on students at exam time! Check her out on a stroll along Mounts Bay Road.

#21: The #Pinnacles are huge limestone pillars which emerge from the Nambung desert. Formed 25,000+ years ago after the sea receded, this unique geological formation is only 2 hours from Perth!
