This poses a challenge for clinicians to communicate treatment decisions. To bridge this gap we therefore developed, evaluated, and adopted visual treatment timelines for cancer patient education. Data visualizations help humans to understand data and are especially effective to communicate risks, uncertainties, or large data and have proven to be a suitable help in cancer communication. Tatata-tarte tatin! My annual tradition of making the most fancy apple pie there is: fluffy pastry and sour, caramelized apples. I had 3 (!) slices 😍

Love my #staub pan with removable handles...
And, off to the oven... A pan filled with apples covered with pastry, next to it 2 apples and quince. Here we go, boiling hot... 3,2,1... Pan after baking, the pastry is now puffed and browmed ... And flipped!! It worked!! The apples tarte was removed from the pan and flipped upside down. Pastry is now the bottom , the apple halves in Carmel sit atop.

Announcement for talk: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced at a rapid pace and is expected to revolutionize many biomedical applications. However, current AI methods are usually developed via a data-centric approach regardless of the usage context and the end users, posing challenges for domain users in interpreting AI, obtaining actionable insights, and collaborating with AI in decision-making and knowledge discovery. In this talk, I discussed how this challenge can be addressed by combining interactive visualizations with interpretable AI. Specifically, I present two methodologies: 1) visualizations that explain AI models and predictions and 2) interaction mechanisms that integrate user feedback into AI models. Despite some challenges, I will conclude on an optimistic note: interactive visual explanations should be indispensable for human-AI collaboration. The methodology discussed can be applied generally to other applications where human-AI collaborations are involved, assisting domain experts in data exploration and insight generation with the help of AI.

Continuing my irregular contributions to "very unfortunate #GraphicalAbtract ": an oligomer with lots of fans in 1933 Germany... 🤨
A visual summary of a paper, called Graphical Abstract, that presents two routes how oligomers assemble, and which produce an structure that in the figure resembles the sign of the Nazi Germany 1933-45, most likely by accident.
