This track has bigger arrangements but I've kept my DIY approach. My Telecaster is set to “melted in the sun” in a nod to Swervedriver and Mazzy Star, but there's a hidden Frank Ocean kick. Ian Flynn always knows what to do in the recording & mixing, and Mark Gardener's mastering is meticulous. 3/5

"Something Positive" shifts into spooky psych shoegaze territory: heavy layered guitars and chanted vocals. The song grew from a sliding riff, written originally as a bassline. “I’ve been gigging and playing pitch shifted guitar; I enjoy the weight that working down the scale adds." 2/5

Back in the studio again with the incredible Ian Flynn in London to record my 2nd single. Studio days are intense but also a supreme highlight of my year. 💛✨️🎛 Loads of layering on this next track, months on this song trying to find its sweet points. I am the band, it was like a gig load in!

Today marks one year since the release of "Every Loss." Finally, I'm able to work on the rest of the demos! Come to The Shoegaze Cafe Manchester on Sat 31 May and you can hear me perform this song (if I can remember the chords 🤭).

Mastering by Mark Gardener (Ride/OX4 Sound). I'd admired his work with Seablite, Mo Dotti, Soft Cavalry, and Ride! I didn't expect a quick reply, but he responded the day I sent the track! His mastering makes everything sparkle. He was calm, kind, and brilliant to work with.

Choosing Ian Flynn/Werkhouse to record/mix the track was easy! I'd worked with him a few years back with another band, he was intuitive and efficient. I love his work with Whitelands, too. It was an epic day of recording in London (and I got to borrow cool pedals!)

Choosing Ian Flynn/Werkhouse to record/mix the track was easy! I'd worked with him a few years back with another band, he was intuitive and efficient. I love his work with Whitelands, too. It was an epic day of recording in London (and I got to borrow cool pedals!)

The track would never have seen daylight had Mark & JP @heliconglasgow.bsky.social not asked to hear it! They assisted with the rough mix and with advice, I'm indebted to them both. For many months, only a handful of people heard this track, Jonny Mattock (S3/Spiritualized) was another.
