New publication from me!

Is it fair or accurate to characterise sheep as "shock troops of Empire?" I came to this question while reading settlers' and pastoralists' letters and diaries from the Port Phillip District in the 1840s

Really enjoyed a visit to München Literaturhaus’ exhibition on Susan Sontag today, which included her Hermes jacket and a lot of personal writings, and a beautiful series of photographs of the interior of her NY apartment. But not a single mention of Annie Leibowitz?

Extraordinary news for lovers of Fleetwood Mac—and Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks especially: more than half a century after it was first released on vinyl, the 1973 LP Buckingham Nicks has FINALLY been re-released and can be heard in all its glory in all the usual places!

Visiting McGill University, QC, where the librarian has just apologised that they don't hold very many books on site, before leading me up six floors crammed with microfiche, maps, manuscripts, books, and so on 🤤

Air Canada has not met workers' demands so they're on strike. This means I won't arrive into Vancouver until 36 hours after I'd hoped, missing out on a trip to UBC-Vancouver special collections. Still, there are worse places to be stuck than my best friend's place in Darwin with its perfect sunsets!

And while I was away my chapter on representations of public transport in Taylor Swift's oeuvre was published! With thanks to the editors and conference conveners for their enthusiasm for this project—and to my friends who provided advice on earlier drafts!

Next week! I will present some research in Townsville on Birrarung/Yarra River, asking, through an environmental history and queer ecologies lens, what a river actually is, what its boundaries are, and examining how the answer to this changes over time and according to whom you ask. Be there!

First time in Darwin and I loved it very much. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the fact my best friend lives here now... Swimming during a storm at Litchfield NP was a particular highlight

Today I went for a paddle through Noosa's Everglades (Kabi Kabi Country), one of only two everglades systems in the world. Very tranquil!
