The thing I am most proud of doing during my MFA was getting an internship at a pharma company and using that plus my chemistry background and MFA to jumpstart a career as a medical writer. Not stressing about money, affording workshop or sub fees and not relying on grants to live is very freeing

I also came from a family where schooling that led to a career was the focus and this all resonates a lot. I spent the first year of that degree so anxious about jobs post MFA I couldn’t sleep at night

Sled dogs can be assholes in groups- my 2 included. When they’re alone they’re great- together they pick fights that they fully intend to win despite being old. Ecollars and close management have been my solutions - I never let them encounter other dogs off leash. We still have fun but its work

It’s an incredible essay- I forgot how much it catches you off guard in what it’s really about. Jo Ann Beard is incredible
