In Ecuador, in the city of Quito, there is a flea market called Plaza Arenas, and there are two blacksmiths that practice their ancient trade... They always have an audience, dozens of tourists and locals alike, admiring that ancient craft. :)

The "complete breakfast" special: rice with chicken and some vegetables; 2 fried eggs; a big bun with butter; a glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice; a cup of black coffee. Off to the side: four different containers with salt, sugar, etc.

Spent the day on Isla de la Plata and saw sooo many blue-footed boobies! 😍 They're hilarious - like cartoon characters that waddled into our world and decided to stay. 💖

I'm in Puerto Lopez - this Ecuadorian town was designed to separate tourists from their moneys. (FWIW, I respect the hustle.) Doesn't mean you can't find great deals, though. 😉 Behold the gigantic coconut water I got for $1.50!

Tomorrow, off to a day-long tour to watch blue-footed boobies. 💖

The Manta excursion. :) No Workaway duties today, so I caught the pickup truck ride to the nearest big city. Interesting place.
A bunch of different birds (rooster, ducks, etc) in cages at a flea market. A cheap and delicious ceviche! :) $2.25 for vinegar-blasted diced fish with onion and tomatoes. A bunch of women exercising on treadmills in the middle of the street. The instructor is facing them on her own treadmill, motivating them as energetic music plays in the background. A super-cool coral reef (ot a fossilised log?) on the beach, with the ocean behind it. It's very porous and has the most fascinatinf texture, like a spaceship constructed by ants.

I'm on an 8-hour bus ride across Ecuador, woooo! :) (Huzzah for wifi!)

Quito, first impressions: metal bars around every business. Very polluted air. Beautiful people. Friendly diners. (I had a tigrillo. 😀) Super-cheap fruit cups. ($1!) My 2004-ish Spanish was sufficient to buy a bus ticket. 🤓
