Or if you're a woman in a controlling relationship, or on the run from one, and therefore can't safely access your identification, and operating the account anonymously, you could be locked out of your lifeline, or (worse) your identity could be outed to your abuser as a result of a data breach.

If, for example, you're a black woman (so facial recognition will be particularly poor at age estimation) and you're running an account that has commercial value, and your account gets locked because of a false positive, it can be exceptionally costly or business-ruining.

I mean, if you're an adult for whom facial recognition works the first time, and the risk in having your face potentially associated with your account is low, then no, it's not burdensome. If it doesn't work, or privacy risks are real safety risks for you, then the equation is very different.

Just following up this joke by pointing out how incredibly *valuable* it was to have young people predominantly gathered on highly visible platforms that were to some degree accountable and regulatable, and what utter idiocy it is to be deliberately destroying that.

But also if a platform doesn't have offices, staff or investment in Australia (as Yope appears not to) then, practically speaking, there's fuck-all the government can do to make them comply, other than adding them to the fairly pointless ISP blacklist.

"No! Young teens! Don't congregate on the edgy weird app that your parents have never heard of! Spend your time on YouthChat, the radical new government platform where you can hear the hottest new info from eSafety and the Education Department! It's, uh, skibidi toilet! 67!"

FWIW the mystery wasn't neat enough to not feel like a cheat, but what makes these movies work is that there's enough genuineness in the protagonists that it doesn't need to be a perfect piece of clockwork for it to feel meaningful and worth your time anyway.

I'd urge you to read the submissions to the inquiry, and particularly the extensive submission of the Human Rights Commissioner, which go into considerable detail about the burden on individuals.

Other important questions asked: "What if Predator was an adaptation of the Monster Hunter videogame franchise?" "What if Predator was a kaiju film?" "What if Predator was about found family?" "What if, instead of Alien vs Predator, we did Predator vs Ripley?"

I saw this previously as a child, possibly many times, but I have no memory of Gopher's "After all, I'm not in the book" joke, which is a great bit and which took me completely by surprise.

Honestly this is way better than I expected based on its reputation. The production design is great, the soundtrack is enjoyable all by itself, the location filming is attractive.
