The Kinderdijk windmills were really beautiful, well worth a visit and a fun water bus ride from central Rotterdam.

If you're in #Jonsered, also grab lunch at Brödfabriken. Incredible sandwiches and pastries. (And follow up with a beer at Poppels)

Visiting the gardens in #Jonsered today. The garden is small, but nicely curated, with a lot of hiking paths.

Also revisited Bohus Fortress, a nearby (and more intact) castle. Not as peaceful, but still a great piece of tangible history.

Ventured out to Ragnhildsholmen, the ruins of a 1200s castle outside of Gothenburg. It was beautiful, and nice to be alone with only the sound of wind.

Been missing American pastrami (made with beef - it's usually pork or poultry in Europe), so I got brisket from a butcher and made my own. Made reubens for dinner, served with the pickles I made the other day.

Fermented pickles in dill, garlic, horseradish, and black pepper. Perfect for summer.

Today's adventures in cooking - lettuce wraps with tofu, a cabbage slaw, and a spicy peanut sauce. Not the prettiest, but the sauce is addictive. Will definitely revisit.

Made a fermented salsa. It was mind blowing. Need to add that to my regular rotation. (Pictured here with fish tacos)

One last post from Japan (I've been slow to get through the photos) - Fushimi Inari. If you've seen photos of any shrine from Kyoto, it's this one, but still - it remains one of my favorite places on this planet, a mesmerizing and otherworldly place.

I did hatsumode (the first shrine visit of the year) at Ōtoyo this year, which felt right, as one of the spirits is dedicated to academic success. I think it is *technically* aimed at students, but... close enough. (Only one of the photos is from Ōtoyo, rest are just generally from the walk) (2/3)

The Philosopher's Path - a winding path between several shrines and temples in northeastern Kyoto - is always one of my favorite parts of the city. Highlights include Eikando, a peaceful and beautiful temple complex, and Ōtoyo, a shrine guarded by animal spirits (1/3).

Still catching up on going through my photos of the Christmas trip. On New Year's Eve, we visited the Arashiyama bamboo forest. Arashiyama itself is very cool, but I was far more impressed with the temples in the hills beyond the forest. They were quiet and beautiful, especially Jojakkoji. (1/3)
