Stephen Miller is one of the worst Americans to ever live. His equals are slavers and Confederates.

/3 I am no longer inclined to spend time tinkering with the machinery of bigotry. It would be trivially easy to explain under a rules-based system how SCOTUS could come out one way on race in admissions and another in race in detentions. But it's still not worth the effort or the implied respect.

I'm definitely not accusing Goodman of this, but as a general statement, reject any "the czar is good, his boyars are bad" BS.

President Donald Trump pardoned convicted war criminals in his first term, and in his second nominated Hegseth because of Hegseth's advocacy for war crimes. It's on him.

It's a campaign of terror.

Her terror (and the terror of entire communities, forced into hiding) is not incidental.

It is a product they are manufacturing, a key part of the spectacle for their intended audience.

Which is the terrorized, but also the terror consumers.
Agents in Key Largo, Florida ripped this woman wearing medical scrubs out of her car as she screamed she is a US citizen. Agents cuffed her and put her in one of their cars.

She was eventually let go, per David Goodhue of the Miami Herald, who also took this footage:

Finally!
Rep. Shri Thanedar said today he plans to introduce articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Democrat announces articles of impeachment against Hegseth
The articles will accuse the Hegseth of "murder" and "conspiracy to murder."

For the life of me, I cannot understand why news organizations are adopting AI widgets like this, especially when they're pinned to the top of an article so that readers see them before they ever see the text.

It's practically begging readers to not read the things you're paying people to write.

„This is a standard playbook. We are now all arguing about the details of a grading rubric, while the practical outcome on the ground will be to continue the project of giving conservative students & activists veto power over educational institutions & curricula.“

Don’t. Argue. About. The. Grade.
I wrote much of this several months ago, about Ezra Klein's response to the Kirk assassination, and then never ended up publishing it, but I think this UO "controversy" is a such a perfect example of how TPUSA et al actually advance conservative power that I decided to revive and rewrite it.
What Liberals Can Learn from Charlie Kirk
Over the last few days, if you’re active on political media, you have probably seen references to the “controversy” over a student’s failing grade on an essay at Oklahoma Un…

The US government is engaged in a policy program of mass exclusion.

It is not a ‘crackdown’—which means strict enforcement against lawbreakers.

It seeks to exclude refugees, students, and family members immigrating lawfully, and to exclude US citizens smeared as undesirable.

Not a ‘crackdown’.

One thing Gwen understands more than most about the Texas and Oklahoma crack down on trans people existing in the university is that this is part of a broader movement by TPUSA and astroturf right wing groups to push society to make having a job while being openly trans impossible again.

a few candidates have talked about this but any Dem planning to run in 2028 should make it explicit: the next DOJ will, in fact, go after you if you’re funding this awful ballroom, or any other pay to play deals you make with this administration
Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

Part of why this stuff keeps getting underreported is that our media class can’t get it through their thick heads that this is not a weightless debate over political ideology, but a declaration of war on over 100 million Americans, which DHS is announcing an intent to eliminate

The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.

we have to get out of this framing that the hard right has a point about immigration numbers, but they're saying it in a mean & racist way

even if they weren't racist at all (& they very much are), what they are calling for is still national suicide

I think television and movie copoganda is a HUGE issue. From "law and Order" to "NCIS" and its many derivatives. Every episode is a series of civil rights violations, all validated in pursuit of "justice". "CSI" back in the day? Every iteration of it. "Blue Bloods". Glorification and nonsense.
If you actually expect laws and courts to deliver "justice", you have been watching WAAAAAAAY too much copaganda on TV.

Court. Stenographers.
Why grant anonymity to someone who is lying to you with the company line? This adds nothing but misinformation to the story and the person quoted isn't going to get in trouble for saying it.

What are we all doing here, exactly?
A reporter asks if Mamdani stands by calling Trump a fascist. Mamdani starts to give a delicate answer.

Trump (smiles, pats Mamdani's arm): "That's OK, you can just say yes. It's easier. I don't mind."

It's ethnic cleansing. The GOP is the party of ethnic cleansing. It is their #1 policy position, ahead of everything else.
Maybe a minor point but maybe there’s a better phrase than “immigration crackdown” for the assault and targeting of a US citizen by masked federal agents because of his appearance. No crime alleged. Just looked brown so they defaulted to “shouldn’t be here.”

The US is not a liberal democracy, and hasn’t been since January. Constitution, rule of law, checks and balances, individual rights — all not in operation.

It’s now a mixed regime, autarky, competitive authoritarianism.

Not at risk. Not could be. Is.

Doesn’t mean that’s forever. But it is now.
This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.
