yeah botw was so revolutionary that any attempt at a sequel was probably going to be a bit of a letdown lol

imo if you go into totk expecting basically "big botw dlc" you'll have a great time. it doesn't fundamentally change much, but it's a fun collection of goofy new stuff added on top of botw

it's... kinda forgettable? it's not Bad or anything, but it doesn't leave much of an impression imo. Reusing the botw map kinda kills the fun of exploration, and the construction stuff is neat but not enough to carry the whole game

afaik most people I know basically landed on "eh it's fine I guess"

basically it limits how bad the worst days can get, and increases the likelihood of good days. I still can't just go "today I will Focus!" and expect success, but over the course of a few weeks/months I get a lot more done. it's been a pretty big boost to my overall quality of life

it definitely helps break the "pacing in circles thinking about all the things I need to do instead of doing any of them" loop, but it isn't a magic Lock In button either, at least for me. There's a lot of individual days where it doesn't seem to do much, but *on average* it's pretty positive

distinctly remember seeing some fanart like a year after I played it and going "wait who the fuck is that???" before realizing it was literally one of the main party members lmao

you only ever see characters as either cute pixel sprites, or dialogue-box portraits. the sprites are tiny and the portraits are cropped SUPER tight around the faces, so you never really get a clear look at anyone's clothes or hair

it works fine in context, but it feels very odd afterwards
