Our novel paleoclimate data do not show any signs of a dramatic “volcanic winter.” Instead, they present evaporative conditions and surface warming, which may have impacted regional ecosystems in more subtle, yet still significant ways.

Here, we present the first proxy-based terrestrial record of the immediate environmental impact of the YTT eruption on a hominin-occupied ecosystem in peninsular India, spanning six annual monsoonal cycles directly following the event.

To explain why our work is valuable, I'd like to quote Clarkson et al., (2012) - “Unfortunately, the temporal resolution needed to address questions of immediate responses to Toba is not, and probably never will be, available.”
