One of my neighbors has been putting up these fish facts posters. All kinds of different fish, marine, freshwater, deep, shallow, all kinds. This is a good one. “Stg this real fish” took me out. Good work, neighbor.

We have updated the Hubbard Glacier Earthquake that happened at 11:41 am to a magnitude 7. More than 20 aftershocks over magnitude 3 have followed the mainshock so far, with the largest aftershocks ranging from M4 to M5.1.

According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, a magnitude 7.0 quake happened at 11:41 a.m. about 50 miles north of Yakutat. The National Tsunami Warning Center says there is no tsunami warning in effect.

Me trying to explain that not all of Alaska loses the sun for months, but that there are different levels of light. These are all Holga (lomography) photos from when I was an artsy 29-year-old doing maternal child health research in NW Arctic villages during the darkest parts of the year.
