Everything about Hegseth's office is cosmetic in both a literal and figurative sense. His understanding of the job is cosmetic. His leadership is for show. The strikes in the Caribbean are for newsmaking. He was nominated for loyalty and for looks.

It's shudder-inducing and crazy-making.

I don't believe, at this time, that any office-holder is entitled to a break. The demands are huge, yes, but so are the stakes. Agreeing to fund this administration is incredibly short-sighted.

Why do I get the feeling that we'll get a correct ruling, but only because it will juice the stock market?

The central lie — the key dishonesty — of modern conservatism is that being judgmental about the ethnicity or language or culture of the person next door is fine and acceptable, but being judgmental of that attitude is elitist and arrogant and closed-minded. What vapid bullshit.

Those aren't contradictory points.

Sincere question: Do you think there will be political will to do so?

I'd go further than him and say that if whatever monstrosity Trump builds there is still standing 4 years from now, the Dem opposition will have been a failure.

Not letting on the extent of the project and changing its course are two different things.
