Excited for the inevitable ‘I went to Bluesky and was intentionally obnoxious and they didn’t like it can you believe it?!’ denouement of this little play
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

50 years ago today, #OTD in Weather History, on November 10, 1975, the Great Lake ore freighter SS EDMUND FITZGERALD was lost with all hands in a severe storm on Lake Superior.

So it is time for the annual reupping of my thread on her loss.

She is perhaps the best known shipwreck on the Great Lakes, and today we remember her loss. 1/

downvotes are a mild way to note when something sucks and without them we get pointless, endless pile ons. downvotes are one of the things that make reddit good.

There’s something about how left leaning people who grow up in stable healthy families are particularly susceptible to this
coming off of an article about french towns tilting less toward fascism if the tour de france comes through, one thing reads especially clear from this: in all human interaction, people want to feel important. sometimes that stems the tide of monsters. other times, monsters use that to play you.
Yesterday Fresh Air did an interview with Robert Draper, who has covered Charlie Kirk. And this section on Draper's relationship with Kirk said a lot to me about modern access journalism, and the soft coverage we've seen in the wake of Kirk's death.

I don't even know how to begin to explain this to people outside the US. Here goes

-US seniors can access Medicare, which covers a lot, but leaves you with out-of-pocket expenses
-Medicare advantage plans have higher premiums, claim better coverage, etc, but 1/4

are people seriously unable to rotate "the ACA is exponentially better than the nightmare we had before it" and "the ACA fell far short of what should be considered an adequate healthcare system for a country with this level of wealth" simultaneously?
