Well, to me this seems like a pretty good summing up of where we currently are in this AI hype nonsense 🫧

Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."

Tech oligarchs have been scrambling for products to retain dominance since the plateau of the home computer and mobile phone. Today, they're forcing 'AI' garbage on us while pushing for mass surveillance and war products, even if they have to make the wars to service them. We can reject this future.

Does it strike anyone as weird that we have a ratings board that counts the number of times a movie says fuck or shows a boob and decides who is allowed to see it, and yet GenAI was dropped on the entire with no restrictions, no age verification, no checks, no regulation whatsoever?

Christmas is coming, and the Black Friday sales signal we’re in peak gift-buying season.

When you’re picking out gifts for friends and family this year, there’s a whole slew of tech products that are better to avoid. I put together a guide to help you through it.

13k comments on one tweet is a massive payout. All of the tweets follow a certain formula, so the content is likely automated using AI technology (e.g., AI generated images and text). Basically running it as a money printing machine. But for those in the US, it translates to low simmering rage.

“Let Marc Andreessen or Satya Nadella or Sundar Pitchai and all those tech bros lose their money, make sure that after the storm nobody forgets that these people gambled with our lives and societies to make number go up.”
Well said 👏🏻👏🏻
I love the abstraction of the "AI" bubble popping. But the very probable effects haunt me.

X rolled out a new feature overnight showing where accounts are based. This network of “Trump-supporting independent women” that claimed to be “real Americans” are based in Thailand.

The photos were stolen from European models & posts pushed pro-Trump lines while targeting Islam and LGBTQ people.

It may be hard to believe, but Twitter was once a useful public space instead of a weird monetization scheme for racist ragebait chatbots.

Just noticed that TeachMateAI has rebranded to teachmate. Got me thinking about why they may have dropped the ‘AI’ & question why they changed the wording in the FAQs, moving any contentious AI issues to the Terms and Conditions?

I resent LLMs for many reasons, but forcing me to act like a cop to keep fake garbage out of publication is high on the list. I want to read people’s work in a spirit of generosity and curiosity again (‘I wonder what cool ideas might be in here?’) instead of ‘I got you now, you lying little shit’

The tech industry's smol bean act is so maddening. Gee, all we did is put out products that make frequent errors while telling everyone they're going to lose their jobs to them. How come they don't like that?
Microsoft's head of AI doesn't understand why people don't like AI, and I don't understand why he doesn't understand because it's pretty obvious
Is it really "mindblowing" that people are skeptical of software that consistently doesn't do the things we're told it can do?

A minor irk. Any email that appears in my inbox with the words 'BLACK FRIDAY' on it, goes immediately into the bin 🗑️ The phrase should be meaningless to anyone outside of the US and yet has seemingly become 'a thing' everywhere.

Hey folks. I have spent *days* reading and meticulously drafting comments on a very lengthy manuscript. Which I have just found includes an AI-faked quote. Attributed to ME.

Here is a thread of my feelings

Indeed. I’m well versed in the risks as I’m a data professional but teachers are just victims of the hype like everyone else - even DfE are pushing schools to use Gen AI as much as possible: without a full grip of the risks leaving it to schools to discover these and mitigate them adequately

The move comes after Microsoft revoked ICC head Karim Khan’s email access when he was sanctioned by the US for the warrant against Netanyahu.
