I just realized that in I'M WITH THE GODDESSES, my concept that's Scott Pilgrim x The Wicked + The Divine, the lead guitarist for the titular band (Mighty Mayra) is specifically meant to be a nod to the AFRO PUNK scene.

But *personality* wise, she's Garnet from #StevenUniverse and Jimi Hendrix.

My Youtube algorithm's full of vids about @bhvr.com's #DeadByDaylight the past couple of days. Which is honestly feeding my desire for my own dossier #WIP, Shadows Of Death and imagining what they'd be like in-game.

For example, Lt. Zachariah Kincaid aka THE TROOPER. An undead soldier from WWI.

Sam is a naturally good man with Shell Shock in 1920's USA, chosen by Death as a balance for all scales and willing to take out *anyone* who disrespects his black strongwoman wife.

“I’d dare not keep Master Chauncey’s guests from both attending,” the butler growled, keeping his eyes on Sylvia as the two doffed their coats and moved to the nearby closet. “Even if this is supposed to be a respectable house.” Handing his coat to Sylvia, the soldier turned to face Evans. His eyes took in the open opulent hall, filled to the brim with gilded leafing, golden accentuated tables and mirrors, ornately sculpted pillars and framed paintings. The spotless marble flooring beneath their feet had been polished to a perfect reflective sheen that left the room glowing from the overly wrought lights above. A wonderful staircase lined with dark polished wood framing that led to the next floor in the back of the hall. And there, in the middle of the innately overpaid-for monument to excess, stood the human symbol of time and age in a black and grey suit that created an inadvertent hole that sucked in all who would view the room that stood guard against the unwanted outsiders dressed for need and cost that reflected the outside world in his midst. “Talk to my men in the killing fields about respect, some time” was all Tanley had to say as he heard Sylvia closing the closet door near him. He knew he must have unknowingly become wound tight as he felt her hand on his upper back, caressing his shoulders to remind him to not let the butler, of all people, get to him.

It's weird how I know people will eventually look at Twilight's Daughter and go "You claim it's queer yet it focuses on a Not Really Gay buff elf woman and her husband!"

And completely miss the Elf's gay moms, or the dedicated books on the Disabled/Neurodivergent Trans Lesbian and her doomed lover.

The main thing I wanted was very strong visual component so that when I branch the overall story across three sub-trilogies, each pair of heroes stand out in their own stories.

And @kimstramat.bsky.social did a great job with Deerah, and both Kim and @sonatacreates.bsky.social killed it with Arnea.

Naming a shadowy cabal of wealthy elites that manipulate 1920's USA's socio-political landscape by any mean possible "The Inheritors Of America" is more than appropriately insidious enough to convey how bad things really are in TANLEY OF THE GRIM.

An excerpt from the latest Tanley Of The Grim WIP: “This body takes work,” Sylvia purred, taking hold of his hand in comfort. “And I know you like it as much as I do. But you also know how it is. When the Inheritors call-” Tanley turned the collar of his wool coat towards the stiff frozen wind that blasted down the street. Jostling trees and rattling windows with phantasmal strength that promised a storm few had seen in many years. “...We answer. Alright, might as well get this over with.” Taking the initiative, Samuel led his love across the mostly empty street. His eyes trained on the roof of the building encased in glass and gilded with bronzened frame. Given the fact that they received the summons so early in the morning, the only place Chauncey could be at this time of day would be the rooftop greenhouse. Eating his breakfast beside the pool that was surrounded by a veritable grove of tropic ferns and trees. Then, with a quick vault up the marble stairs before the embossed double doors, he knocked urgently in the pattern to let the help know it was a business visit. Three hard knocks, one sharp knock, two soft knocks. All spaced out in perfect syncopation against the Grecian etchings of two men holding a sun up high that cleanly split where the two doors meet. The sound of locks being undone cut through the moaning gale assaulting them, forcing the Sergeant and his claimed wife to bundle up tighter in their overcoats as the doors swung wide to reveal a stern older gentleman dressed in his finest attendant’s suit capped by white gloves. His slightly balding grey hair perfectly maintained and unmoving, even as the wind forced its way inside the warm abode behind his coat tails. “Sergeant Samuel Tanley,” the man dryly croaked, a wry creeping across his face as he glared at the slightly shorter Fixer before becoming stone-faced once more as he glared at Sylvia. “And Madame du Cane, I see. The young master is expecting you by the pool.”

Thea Leh Rühk, the 7 ft. tall Blood Singer (in-universe term for Berserker) and Elven Princess of divine heritage. The titular character of my Fantasy Horror WIP titled TWILIGHT'S DAUGHTER. Davrick Bene, Human Archmage of the Brotherhood Of Shadowed Suns that is also known as "The Will Of Secrets". Unlike his wife Thea, Davirick is of rather average height and build and is far more prone to using his words before relying on magic. Think of an Archmage title as more akin to holding a Doctorate in Magical studies.

Someone asked me when I'll be arranging more art of 3D, my Tomboy Cinephile superhero OC. And I've been thinking of her official costume for a bit.

The downside is I work with an insanely low budget. So not for a while, sadly.

But I truly want to make it happen.

3D, a superhero with the power of Cinemimickry (she can use powers and abilities from movies and shows she watches for a certain amount of time, capable of storing them until used up that day or until they reset when she falls asleep). 3D is just one of many planned superheroes in my original Cape setting called AXIOM. Powerfully built woman with short hair in a Blue/Red color scheme outfit that matches her hair and 3-D glasses, holding a bag of popcorn while flexing in a cheeky pose.

A bit late at night for most, but a big update.

I've begun the next #ShortStory #Wip of my #Pulp #Horror setting, TANLEY OF THE GRIM.

In "Broken Bonds", Tanley and Sylvia are hired to find a missing call girl for a Succubus Madam of the Inner Circle that uses Tanley as their own "Occult Fixer".
Looking up at the stately brownstone before them, Samuel’s gut told him something wasn’t quite right. A common feeling he had every time he came to one of Chauncey Billingsley’s spacious abodes littered throughout the state of New York. But he knew that when a patron calls upon you, even if it was someone you could practically call your friend, it is always in your best interest to answer their summons. For a summons, it was. Urgent enough for him to press on its importance to Sylvia so that the Grim soldier knew to arrive post haste. “You’re nervous.” Samuel sighed at his love’s words. She was right, like always. His body coiled tighter than decorative metal wire around a knife handle inside a clenched fist. If there was one thing that made the honorable soldier feel off-center, it was knowing that those who held sway over him held no station he had means to fight against. “You know Chauncey,” Samuel grumbled, fretting as he brushed his tussled blonde hair back while the skies above them rumbled ominously. “He never calls unless it’s a big request. I also hate how he timed it so you missed your training session.” “This body takes work,” Sylvia purred, taking hold of his hand in comfort. “And I know you like it as much as I do. Sleep schedule basically got rebooted due to a migraine and heavily medicating myself last night.

So I'm working on Walter's explanation of Ethereal Slashers for SHADOWS OF DEATH.

Ghosts. Spirits. Entities with no backstory. 10 figures of those who went beyond death and became spectral nightmares.
There are many different types of entities throughout Folklore and Urban Legend. Some can be easily categorized by what they do. Some by what they are. Others by the circumstances of their existence. The same is true for Slashers, as much as I am both loathed to and assured in saying what we have been tasked to gather intelligence on are. Like most other forms of entity that some may be obsessed with, Slashers are not as… “negotiable” when it comes to who and what they have become. The vast majority were human, simply mortal souls who somehow lost themselves to an overwhelming urge for massacre and evil. But as we have found, there are times where that evil changes who they are into something more. Something profoundly beyond what they were. It is in our best opinion that by becoming a Shadow of Death itself, they are lifted beyond the limits of mortality into something more. This is where the series of classification must begin - the manner of which a person has been remade. HUMAN - those that embodied the horrors of death, yet somehow remaining corporeal and whole. INHUMAN - those that have somehow become completely changed by their Shadow, either by becoming something not human at all or having never been one in the first place. UNDEAD - those touched by death and brought back for some purpose, often with horrific outcomes involving wholesale carnage by a reborn engine of destruction in an undying form. ETHEREAL - those which have died, or perhaps never lived in the first place, given form and tasked with an unquestionable (and perhaps fated) state of haunting murderous existence. And the area I think deserving the most discussion is perhaps those that defy the idea of mortal restraints entirely. The ones beyond the state of decay and who have become something entirely intangible. Those reborn beyond corpus and into animus entirely. The ETHEREAL Slashers. Those who play by entirely different rules when it comes to their Hunt.

I tried to stop myself.

I tried to limit my plans. To make it a potential single issue anthology or even a Giant Sized type thing.

But I woke up today and realized that wasn't right.

So LIGHTS IN THE DARK, my Horror anthology comic, is now a Full Sized graphic novel of one shots.
Working off the repost attached to this one, I've added three more Horror subgenre titles to the Lights In The Dark concept and expanded it to be a full graphic novel sized title full of one shots. The added titles are JEREMIAH MORTIS - The Last Duel (Weird Western/Western Horror) THE TERRORS - Charity Event (Monster hunting with The Terror family's Black Sheep daughter and the forgotten war god attached to her soul) YOU WANT ME DEAD - Supply Run (Supernatural Survival Horror about a small to mid-sized American city overrun with people turned feral by an unnatural presence directing them towards anyone they have inherent prejudice and bias towards) Mara O'Malley aka Mara Terror, the black sheep daughter of a notorious family of Reality TV celebrity monster hunters from THE TERRORS. For the record, one example of her family being a gathering of just THE WORST FUCKHEADS is the time they used their knowledge of Mara's attraction to women to stage a "coming out" episode for Sweeps Week. Yeah, her family are **THAT** kind of people. Tall and strong looking butch lesbian with naturally super pale skin. Long black hair, slate blue muscle tee, leather jacket with studs and spikes. Prominent scar around her nose from an incident in her childhood. Looks completely done with her family's bullshit. Art is by @Cryptid Khaki.

The current list of titles in LIGHTS IN THE DARK, an anthology of Horror comics starring OC's of mine. The newest addition, LAVINIA FRANKENSTEIN, is outlined in red. Her story's title is called "See Myself In You". She joins TANLEY OF THE GRIM - A Little Lost (a 1920's Pulp Horror comic), THE CRYPT - Approvals (a comedic horror workplace title set in a scientific facility dedicated to studying, rehabilitating and containing monsters and ghosts and other entities), THE WITCH GUARD - Shot In The Dark (a World War One type Cosmic Horror meets Dark Fantasy tale about America using magical troops to fight a horrifying war) and TOPPER - A Night Off (a transman paranormal detective in a suburban punk horror setting) as officially being worked on.

Looking back on it, I realized that there was a piece of the story's DNA that felt missing in the mix.

It didn't take me long to realize what it was.

Decided to start working on an entry in SHADOWS OF DEATH, my Slasher portfolio WIP.

This time, it's DARREN DELLARE (pronounced Dell-Air) aka The Devil's Dealer. Offering games of chance to literally change your fate at the cost of mutilation, sacrificing loved ones or much, much, *much* worse...
NAME: Darren Dellare ALIAS: The Devil’s Dealer STATUS: ACTIVE M.O.: Temptation/Collection HUNTING GROUNDS: [VARIOUS] PREFERRED INSTRUMENT: Self-fulfillment UNIQUE TRAITS: Damned, Gambler, Playful ORIGIN: 1956 NUMBER OF VICTIMS (To Date): [UNKNOWN, IMPOSSIBLE TO CALCULATE] PROFILE: The absolute embodiment of The Gambler archetype, Dellare is perhaps one of the most fair entries in this whole dossier. Slightly taller than average height often seen in a clean light blue suit straight out of 1950’s fashion. Rarely shows his eyes which reports claim are brown with a slight hint of gold, mostly due to the fact he almost never takes off his sunglasses. His whole vibe is one of playful cajoling, trying to get those who enter his premises to relax and enjoy the games he offers. But therein lies the truly insidious core of his so-called “games”. For every table of chane within his House are ones of extremely high reward, but also of the most malevolent and twisted lows one can possibly imagine. There is very little he is not willing to stoop to in the name of keeping the game going. He often offers those he challenges an opportunity to walk away, yes. But every reward he offers those to keep playing seems perfectly crafted to make you stay. To make you keep playing. To make you press your luck further and further. And if you can’t pay, he does offer ways to try again. After all, what’s a few fingers, an eye or even a loved one in the name of turning your luck around…? Four cards, each the Ace of their specific suit, as part of a dealt hand in a game of poker.

Most days, my mind constantly fights me when I try to create.

"No one wants to see what you make."

"You're wasting artists' time."

"You ideas don't matter and you don't matter."

Then I come across stuff I commissioned like Picker's Orchard by @kolokomiks.bsky.social and smile at my ideas.
Picker's Orchard - a small section of The Devil's Eye, a concept involving a section of wood groves where people who enter vanish without a trace and what they go through to get to its center. Two women entering a grove where all the trees - from trunk to roots to leaves and even fruit - are made of disembodied hands in the glow of a camera's light underneath an ominous night sky.

A fun side of working on comics (even shorts) is imagining designs by different artists.

One on my mind a lot lately is TOPPER, my Transman paranormal detective with a punk edge (drawn here by @portaltohades.bsky.social).

Ex: Keep imagining him in @skyepatridge.bsky.social or @kim-hu.com's style.
Topper is a Transman punk who returned back to his home of Deep Well (nicknamed The Well) after being hit with magic in the middle of a wizard's duel he stumbled upon. Effectively leaving him with his skull on the outside of his head, but also effectively immune to all forms of hexes, curses, mystic transformations and whatnot. For example, he can get bit by a werewolf and his body will reject the lycanthropy instinctually. This form of immunity makes him the best form of protection of his The Well, which almost the entirety of the local and state police force refuse to step into because of how screwed up the area is. You know... Because of all the monsters, serial killers, mystic crimes and whatnot that seems to run rampant in his neck of the woods. Aided by a pretty eyeless witch, a normal partner with a penchant for having the right weapon at the right time, the local sheriff who may or may not have a vendetta against the local Police Department and some of the locals, Topper's chip on his shoulder about people doing the right thing gets him in a whole mess of trouble. But someone's gotta do something. Might as well be him, right?
