By safeguarding their memory, we help ensure all trans+ lives continue to guide and strengthen the next generation.

For the trans+ people we have lost, those traces form part of the shared knowledge and understanding that holds our community together. Their lives continue in the support we offer each other, the lessons we carry forward, and the spaces we fight to make safer.

These encounters shape the people around them, sometimes in ways that are never spoken aloud. Their impact continues through the lives they touched. For no one moves through the world without leaving traces of themselves behind.

Each person we honour today - and every trans+ person who travels through life - changes the world simply by being part of it. A conversation, an act of kindness, a moment of honesty, the courage to exist openly, or the quiet strength to keep going.

This is a crucial win for trans rights and equality law, but ongoing vigilance is needed to ensure accurate, equality guidance replaces it.

That is why we are building a new GIRES website. Our aim is to create a trusted, accessible resource that individuals, families, professionals, and organisations can turn to.

Trans+ people are often expected to carry the responsibility of educating others about their lives, identities, and experiences, while having endless resilience.

We believe building awareness about trans lives should never rest solely on the shoulders of trans people.
