Sometimes I feel like I don't matter. Like the way I was treated by the law & news media when I was wrongly arrested for murder b/c of a miscarriage. But I can't be silenced. We have too much to change.

I returned home to Decatur shackled & cuffed & taken straight to jail for murder charges. My family hadn't seen me in yrs. But even news headlines & family grudges couldn't hinder their love of the grandchild they never knew while I struggled within a sisterhood behind bars.

In 1998 I was arrested for murder. The alleged murder was a miscarriage & my accuser was the man who beat me for years. Now how could I protect my son from my abuser while behind bars with a $3 million bond & only my new jail sisterhood to keep me sane?

Me & my son when I was finally released on bail to wait my murder trial in 1998. We would never be the same, but after months of seeing me through the visitor window, at least we were together.

In Nov I received the Courageous Activist Award from the Md General Assembly. But 25 years ago I was arrested for murder based on hearsay. I was forced to choose between my freedom and the ability to raise my son or being a felon.
