Thatcher moved the centre of gravity rightwards. Reeves believes (correctly imho) in privatised utilities and free movement of capital and independent monetary policy - all would seem rather right wing in the early 1980s. 3/

one of my memories of reading John Campbell's Jenkins biography is how Roy Jenkins was deemed irretrievably right wing for thinking there is ANY limit on how high government spending as a share of the economy might go, when 50% was on the cards. Hope it is not a false memory! 2/

Yes. If net migration was nil but immigration say 500k. The 'cultural replacement' racist objectors would still have a big issue with it. The net migration argument only works on the "strain on services" objectors group. Who I guess are not the majority.
