OK, here we go again... Will this turn into a hellsite like the other place? How long before I get a creepy message? Will I get plagued with mansplainers? Here's hoping that none of that happens and this becomes a constructive place on the internet.

I'm posting this so I don't forget to share something with @sturdyalex.bsky.social and @pimlicat.bsky.social once it's published... It's something really interesting and hopeful about UK-Germany relations that I edited for a liberal European think tank. I'm posting this to hold myself accountable!

Ppl who always post about how they hate Harry&Meghan/share H&M articles always whine that they can't escape attention-seeking H&M. But they give H&M attention so their feed fills with H&M. The algorithm doesn't care what they think of Harry&Meghan. It just calculates they want MORE HARRY & MEGHAN!

This made me laugh way more than it should have. Like idiots in the UK who think tea is grown in Yorkshire.
"Does this feel like or look like a well-run competent administration? It took them 10 months to discover that the United States doesn't grow bananas and that therefore if we tariff bananas that that's not going to bring banana factories on shore."

Does anyone in here like to chat online while watching #aplaceinthesun? That's pretty much the only reason I still have an account in the awful other place.

The overt misogyny being shown by the RW press against the Chancellor is chilling. They just hate women and are happy to let everyone know it.
Pleased to discover that slightly misnaming the national chess championship you won as a school child is a much more serious offence than repeatedly racially abusing your fellow pupils and telling them they should go to the gas chamber

This is how Chris Mason, like a child filled with wonder, described "the choreography and theatre that surrounds a Budget" in Feb 2024, when a male Tory Chancellor was in post.

"Plans, or even just options, can be floated... Reaction to them can be tested. Opponents can be teased or wrongfooted." 👀

Yes! This! I just posted this sentiment. Hasn't that braying, stubbled jack-o'-lantern been in Reform for ages? I've had a general anaesthetic today, so I may be confused...
this, but for Jonathan Gullis defecting to Reform
You know when a famous person dies and you're surprised because you'd assumed they must already be dead? That, but for Nadine Dorries defecting to Reform.
December 1, 2025 at 9:35 PM
Not going to lie (and I do pay pretty close attention to politics), I genuinely thought Gullis joined Reform ages ago. Did I dream that???!
As Jonathan Gullis joins Reform UK, it's only fair to remind people of this.

All forgotten, is it, Dickie? ~AA

FWIW, despite the best attempts of the usual suspects, I don't think the "Rachel Reeves lied!" story is actually cutting through. I think she'll survive this, especially Kemi Badenoch's stupidity. (Of course, this tweet may age like a fine milk, but let's see ..)

Poor Kemi. So dumb that she doesn't even realise that she is dumb.
What is she even talking about? The OBR is, by design, not under the control of Rachel Reeves.

is it too much to ask that the leader of the opposition does some basic homework before she starts talking? I would die of shame if I were as flat-out wrong on facts even half as often as Badenoch is.

OK, now we have everyone's attention about accidental prisoner release because suddenly people are worked up about foreigners being accidentally released - and even though accidental releases have gone on for years - how about everyone focus on what can be done about it & improving prisons overall.

Regardless of politics, I cannot imagine any president of any stripe from my lifetime of nearly 50 years behaving like this. Not one of them. Even those I would disagree with on many things still had enough humanity and fundamental decency to try to help and make sure the person was OK.
This is a real picture captured in the white house today.

Trump is the worst kind of self-involved, attention-seeking narcissist. He's anl empathy vacuum when it comes to considering others, but equally, he would expect all the attention if he was the one who collapsed. And this informs everythng he does. There's always something in it for him.

Quite. When Hadush Kebatu was on the run, there was talk about how the streets weren't safe wth him out there. Sure, nobody wanted him out there, but neither his release or his recapture make anyone any safer. He is just one bad man in a world of bad men who are out there seeking to harm others.

Where is Lord Timpson during the prisons debate? I was delighted when he was appointed prisons minister & thought he could effect real change. Today, I thought maybe his work isn't being reported. A news search shows he last talked to the media about this in May. What's going on? What is he doing?

The leasehold system in the UK is antiquated, not fit for purpose and frankly, a bit weird. Australia pretty much did away with it years ago and the same thing should happen here.
