Agree!! Updating CPP in the 1990s was an excellent move! We wrote about it here: www.gensqueeze.ca/eby_ford_tru...

Many countries across the world are envious of the success of our CPP. But why didn't we do the same for OAS?

HUGE shout out and THANK YOU to @thepaikinpodcast.bsky.social for asking Canada's Minister of Finance, François-Philippe Champagne about the disproportionate spending on old vs. young in Canada's federal budget 2025. Watch the full episode: www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6o-... #cdnpoli

New episode of the Hard Truths Pod!
Spoiler alert: No, Canada's federal budget does not in fact help all generations equally. Sorry to disappoint. Link to full episode: www.gensqueeze.ca/podcast

As the largest line item in the federal budget it seems inevitable that reform will happen sooner rather than later. Giving $18,000/year to retired couples with $180,000 of household income doesn't seem sustainable when other priorities are pressing. Look at housing www.gensqueeze.ca/who_is_asked...

Here's how we propose to eliminate seniors' poverty in Canada and still have money left over to help younger generations with housing, tuition, child care and the climate crisis. Join us in advocating for this fix to OAS: action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas #cdnpoli

Where is the money going? The short answer is that the fiscal pressures created by our aging population are what's driving Ontario’s red ink. For decades governments failed to plan for the healthy retirements of seniors. www.gensqueeze.ca/analysis_of_...

We still see room for improvement in the budget. Let's start by fixing Old Age Security! Financially secure seniors are still getting payments while 400,000 seniors live in poverty and while we badly need more funding for housing!!! action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas

We see something that needs reform ASAP. Seniors with 6 figure incomes are still receiving OAS while 400,000 seniors live in poverty AND while we are underfunding housing!!! Please read our plan for reform. We can do it without raising taxes! action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas

There remain some things needing to be addressed in budget 2025....

Canada's budget 2025: It’s hard to call $1.6 billion a “generational investment” when the same budget plans to boost spending on retirees by $28 billion in 2029 alone. That gap speaks volumes about federal priorities! #cdnpoli www.gensqueeze.ca/did_budget_2...
November 14, 2025 at 12:10 AM
The federal government has a big role to play and MPs are choosing to invest more in financially secure retirees than in children. Couples with $182,000 of income currently qualify for $18,000/year in OAS payments. A budget is a statement of values. And here we are: www.gensqueeze.ca/who_is_asked...

Biggest line item in the new federal budget is Old Age Security, which currently provides $18,000/year to a retired couple making $182,000. There are smarter ways to spend tax dollars. action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas

There seems to be plenty of money for income supports for retirees....Did you know that a retired couple with household income of $182,000 qualifies for $18,000 of OAS payments? We think there are wiser choices for tax-payer money. Join us: action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas

CBC's Day 6 pod: Mark Carney's government framed this budget as being about sacrifice but here at Generation Squeeze we say the budget doesn't do enough to address the structural inequity in government spending that hits young people the hardest.Full episode here: www.cbc.ca/listen/live-... #cdnpoli

You may be surprised. We are hearing from our supporters who have talked to MPs from all political stripes and most of them agree that reform is necessary! We need to give politicians the political courage to put it forward. Financially secure boomers agree too!!! Call your MP!!!

Most Canadians don't know that 13% of our national gross domestic product (GDP) is real estate! This sector is bigger than manufacturing; bigger than mining, oil and gas; bigger than construction, health care, financial services, and all other industries. www.gensqueeze.ca/globe_mail_l...

Correct Terri. Inflation adjusted to 2024. Sorry! The previous infographic cut off the bottom where that is mentioned.

Sorry, Susan. We should have clarified. Those are inflation adjusted figures to 2024 dollars. And all the data is from Stats Can and CREA. That previous infographic cut off the bottom where that is mentioned.

You may be surprised to find out that all political parties have had a role to play in the current housing crisis. It's been decades in the making and Liberals, Cons & NDP have been in charge in fed/provincial jurisdictions. Wages (orange line) have not kept pace with home prices (blue line).

It was great to hear him say that Canadian youth have sacrificed enough but so far we haven't seen many details on solutions to help fix the affordability crisis. And then there's the spending by age in the new budget: www.gensqueeze.ca/who_is_asked...
November 5, 2025 at 5:02 PM
The youth base and NDP should be talking about the elephant in the room. Inefficient spending on OAS for seniors with incomes above $100,000 while young people suffer a crisis of affordability and 400,000 seniors live in poverty. action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas
