For those who don't know me: I exist in a liminal space of wanting to engage and talk to people about interesting things but abhor being observed. It makes my skin crawl. As a result, I guard how people interact with and about me fairly tightly.

If you're not sure and you want to be careful, ask.

It's funny how the future of the Democrats we're bombarded to consider always looks like the past of the Republicans. Not so much "haha" funny as "maybe we should leave before things get weird" funny.
You have to understand what pieces like this from the NYT are and are not.

They are not an honest assessment of the state of politics today.

They are a negotiation tactic—an effort by a calcified, right-leaning legacy institution to steer the discourse in a direction more palatable to elites.

I had someone recently ask me why I disliked conservatism. I had to gently explain: Even if we set aside the things it has mutated into today, I am a dozen different identities that were persecuted in the past you're trying to conserve. Your traditions are not atomic; they come as a package deal.

...his pre-election history includes cosponsoring an act easing changes to gender on govt records, supporting the shield law blocking LEAs from reporting to other states about gender-affirming care performed in NY and writing to support prop 1 protecting vs gender/sexuality discrimination in NY.
How are people still talking about Mamdani and the idea he's going to impose sharia law on NYC?

1. NYC would have to be willing tolerate it, and lol

2. There's nothing I've ever heard him say that implies he hates the lgtbq community or women

3. The call is coming from inside the house here.

I have never seen Vanilla Sky because they shut down twenty blocks around Times Square and made me miss a Broadway show to film a scene of Tom Hanks running through the empty streets.
What’s your pettiest reason for refusing to watch a movie or TV show?

I’ll start: I refuse to watch Greatest Showman because they had Jenny Lind, a professional opera singer, belting

Yesterday I gave a friend a gift that they'd never seen before: A cast iron fish for cooking. I know they're vegetarian and have been rather fatigued lately. Imagine their confusion as I presented it to them and said it might help. We had to talk about how to use it. 🤣

Please do not insist people who had strokes or other disabling psychoneurological events developed personality, mood, empathy or cognitive impairments as a result. It's ableist as fuck and, worse, it uses that ableism to avoid asking "were they always this way and why did I not discern that before?"

There's a fair chance that I'll live to 2030. I can't begin to tell you how mind-blowing that is to me. I spent my youth never expecting to see the backside of 2010 and every decade that passes, I have a small existential crisis like suddenly realizing you don't think you were invited to this party.

we’re phantom friends, a new indie fund. our focus is on low light worlds. we're drawn to the umbral and moody, the glow of a city at night, a darkness that feels alive. games that live in the shadows, both visually and narratively.

One of the greatest pleasures of the modern streaming era is that I don't even have to turn off the TV for you to miss me with some whack shit.

Whenever I'm watching one of a clip where you're supposed to guess who's singing versus lipsynching, I am reminded of two things:

1) The average person hasn't had enough vocal training to understand how singing moves a mouth and throat.

2) Lipsynching well enough to fool other singers is HARD.

What's nice about this tweet is how rarely are we as adults given a perfect snapshot of the moment our future as a gifted burnout is cemented.

For folks who don't study education and developmental psychology: That second page is FAR more important. Pre-K is more about socialization than academics.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

I'm going to start putting together some free info and resources for indie game devs looking to self-publish. I see a lot of people making simple mistakes, and hear a lot about being overwhelmed by what they need to do.

Do folk have specific self-publishing questions they'd want answered?

It's a fascinating exercise, challenging yourself to recognize the flaws in the people you care about. Can you see them for what they are without making excuses or downplaying the severity of what holds them back as a person? Can you love them despite that and accept them as they are with it?

I'm reading a cultivation fantasy and one of the side characters is so thoughtless it frustrated me until I realized: That's the nature of humanity; to have secured potential immortality and then spare not a single thought for what tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow will be.

Since we're still talking about how people perceive nature, you should know that we estimate that for each person on earth, there is somewhere between 200mil and 1.2 BILLION insects. When you walk into a forest? You're SURROUNDED by bugs. Swimming in them. Likely thousands within a 10ft radius.

To be fair, having standards is a new and uncomfortable experience for her. You can't be surprised she doesn't see their value; her career exists because nobody else did.
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

I need folks to stop using terms like "revolutionize" and "transform" to compliment emerging technologies. Neither word actually implies an improvement. Microplastics revolutionized how we consume and transformed human bodies. We're only now beginning to grasp how bad this was for us and the Earth.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has defended AI following Eurogamer's 2/5 Arc Raiders review, which criticised the game's use use of AI voice generation. "AI dialog generation + human personality and tuning could totally transform gaming," Sweeney said.
