Trip to try to photograph a Bairds Sandpiper at Rutland y/day, with @bri66thomp turned out well, as you can see. Good to see some friends there too, & many well behaved too

A return visit this morning, to Chew Valley Lake, turned into a good move, when the 1st Red-necked Grebe since 2012 was found. A Summer plumaged bird too….sadly stayed too distant for decent pix. But, when the Spotted Sandpiper lands right in front of you, it eases that…#UKBirds

Nice to see Brian Thompsons Spotted Sandpiper at CVL today. Mine won’t be the best shots of the day, but still chuffed to get some. Congrats again Bri #UKBirds

Glad I forced my dodgy knees up Cwm Cadlan y/day (5th May). Got fantastic views of the 4 Dotterel there, even in a cold NE wind…#UKBirds

Spent Sunday morning getting cold, & a little wet at times, waiting for the Durleigh Res, Whiskered Tern. Which it did…sadly every close pass, had a very Grey ‘yucky’ sky behind it…so didn’t really get what I was hoping for….#UKBirds

A quick drive out to Chew after work today, paid off with the Drake Lesser Scaup showing well in Herons Green Bay, before being flushed by a fishing boat #UKBirds

Today I finally got around to visiting Cheddar Reservoir, to see the 3 Black-necked Grebes, that have been around for a while. All 3 are at different stages of coming into Summer plumage. They all showed well. #UKBirds

This Saturday 15th, I only had the morning to do some birding, so decided to go to Parkend, Forest of Dean, to see the Hawfinches, after failing last weekend, as it was too busy.....success this time, with 9+ Hawfinches showing really well......including a Female with a ring '6T'.... #UKBirds

Just a little catch up. Sunday 9th I decided to try again to see the female Kentish Plover on the beach at Burnham-on-Sea, it was 5/6th time lucky. I had only ever seen it at extreme distance on Stert Island before.....she showed pretty well too.....at last #UKBirds

A cold but sunny weekend, which was nice for a change, meaning some nice light, but sadly not too many goodies. So was well happy to get these….Black-necked Grebe at Chew, & Spotted Redshank at Catcott (just before the light went) #UKBirds

Risked the weather yesterday, late morning, until mid afternoon. The Merlin at Greylake RSPB, Somerset, showed well, but was drenched, as you can see below....will have to go back on a better day. Hopefully can get the Male too, if he is still about

Thought Monday (6th May) was written off, so to get Hobby & Osprey at Chew was a bonus. It did brighten up a bit later, but neither came close, when the light was nice….close Osprey pic is not great, distant one looks OK, but quite pleased with the Hobby all things considered #UKBirding
May 9, 2024 at 9:33 PM
Good show of the Chew Valley lake Hobby’s today, shame about the weather, still enjoyed the display…. #UKBirding
May 5, 2024 at 10:07 PM
Only a few hours on the Levels y/day, due to issues, but was still nice to see the Wagtails and a few more migrants. 1st Cuckoo heard, Wheatear & Sedge Warbler around too #UKbirding
