Kudos to the student paper at the U of Utah for this great piece of reporting. And kudos to several faculty openly speaking out about an institution that is increasingly different from the one that wowed me 7+ years ago

Everyone involved in Alligator Alcatraz, from the lowest guard to the highest level of the administration must be held accountable. There can be no pardons or immunities.
They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.
Torture Techniques from CIA Black Sites Were Used at Alligator Alcatraz
Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

You can’t have democracy if you don’t have accountability. That’s the entire point of the damn system.

Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:
Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.

I wish more people could appreciate that our Constitution has failed now that the separation of powers that it's predicated upon has given way to dictatorial rule rubber-stamped by confederates in other branches. As such, those of us seeking to rebuild liberal democracy are no longer bound by it.
The Supreme Court Friday agreed to decide whether President Donald Trump can unilaterally limit the constitutional right to citizenship granted to virtually every person born in the United States. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

I love Creed and love this story. Creed is another one of the few movies and franchises that shows Black life with complexity and humanness. I‘ve watched Creed 2 far too much because of its focus on Black fatherhood.

Gerald is a great voice in the Suns community and his new venture is worth a follow.
For the 1st episode of the @sunsafterdark.bsky.social, you KNOW I had to reunite with @lindseysmithaz.bsky.social!

We talked about the Suns' surprise start, the movies (and one trash TV show) we've been watching...and yes, the tea on getting fired by our former employer: bit.ly/3MaH8z4

Barring a mid-career improvement in his health, Mitchell Robinson is trending toward one of the biggest 'What If?' stories of this generation of players. Absolutely huge impacts on the court - when he's actually on the court.

The problem with this article is they asked too many lawyers and not enough historians.

As a historian, I'd say the legality of Trump's immunity and pardons depends on how he leaves office.

At 40 over 55 approval? He's immune.

At 25 over 65? He's probably not immune & self-pardons aren't legal.
