Only about halfway through this book by @xinwen.bsky.social, but it is superb! Really cool sources and a super interesting argument about the centrality of diplomacy.

Likely the least professional and most insulting rejection letter yet. Why did I put time into this?

Evidently @quinnslobodian.com writes books faster than I can keep up, but this book is just really good.

Are you attending #EISAPEC25? If you have a paper on historical inter-polity relations/diplomacy (esp non-Western), please consider submitting it as part of the panel @anahitaarian.bsky.social and I are putting together. Still looking for chair/discussant and at least one more paper. #HistIR

If you are interested in the intersection of historical international relations, diplomacy, and international order, please make sure to attend our panel at #ISA2025 (seeing that only @halvardl.bsky.social is on this app, I'll try to get the others to join 😀) #HistIR

First time back home in almost 5 years. I can never get enough of this view and just how pretty Tübingen is.

Rarely can I afford to buy the books I need to read, but sometimes there are good reasons to make an exception. These are two of only a very few accounts of the Qing "embassies" to Russia in the early 18th century, the first such delegations in/to a Western polity.

Obligatory #ISA2024 post. Many interesting panels on the program this year, but check out those two if you are into historical IR and relational approaches. I'll also be volunteering Thursday and Friday so please say hi!

I've said it before, but I'm gonna say it again: the Grand Strategy Predoctoral Fellowship at the Korean Studies Institute at the University of Southern California has been an incredible experience so far and I am looking forward to the next few months with this incredible group of people!

Historians are just on a whole other level...Polisky people, what historical events correspond to how long it has taken you to finish a dissertation/paper/book?

Really enjoyed reading this. Chs covering 19th c and after not bad, but not nearly as interesting as those covering 1500-1800. Fascinating how Germans, when there was no unified German polity, had their hands in every European imperial project + transfer of goods, ppl, knowledge, back into Germany.
