First time back home in almost 5 years. I can never get enough of this view and just how pretty Tübingen is.

Rarely can I afford to buy the books I need to read, but sometimes there are good reasons to make an exception. These are two of only a very few accounts of the Qing "embassies" to Russia in the early 18th century, the first such delegations in/to a Western polity.

Kicking off the 2023-24 US-Asia Grand Strategy Fellowship Program at USC Korean Studies Institute! I am so excited about spending the next 10+ months with these awesome people.

Really enjoyed reading this. Chs covering 19th c and after not bad, but not nearly as interesting as those covering 1500-1800. Fascinating how Germans, when there was no unified German polity, had their hands in every European imperial project + transfer of goods, ppl, knowledge, back into Germany.
