Barely Battle Ready
@freifunk.bsky.social
Old-school nerd from the days when being one wasn’t cool. Pen & paper GM, lost in sci-fi & fantasy worlds. Gaming, geocaching and fiddling with 3D printing. Started painting Warhammer minis in Jan ‘25—let’s see where this goes.
I’ve only been in the hobby for about a year and I’m still figuring out the basics… all my terrain is still in the pile of shame. But honestly, if I ever get around to it, I’d be more than happy if it looked even half as good as your unfinished terrain.

There are a few areas that look a beat clean, but that could also be a design choice…

You consider this is NOT finished? It looks awesome!

Yeah, that thought crosses my mind from time to time too… where to store all that terrain once it’s actually painted. Then I remember: denial is a valid strategy. 😂

The emperor is smiling upon your work, brother! 👏

You’d think so, but for the Parasite I actually used contrast paint thinned about 1:4 with contrast medium. Total accident, I already had some mixed and figured I’d just try it, and it worked surprisingly well. So I’d guess it’s also possible to wick out some moisture with glaze medium.

Thank you.

I’ve spent quite a while trying to figure out how glazing actually works. Every time I thinned the paint it just got way too runny. Then I saw on YT about pulling some of the moisture out of the brush and that changed everything. Still not perfect, but it finally looks like actual glazing 😅

Sure. After thinning the paint and loading the brush, I touch it to a paper towel to wick out some of the moisture. That leaves the paint thin but not runny, so it doesn’t flood the surface. It gives you way more control when applying glazes in thin, semi-transparent layers.

And of course for 3️⃣ I wanted to write: …place it on the white shield.

You have to. There’s simply no other choice. Anything else would make little Primordial Annihilator cry.

Gotta keep Nurgle’s gifts at bay. The Emperor approves, brother! 😁
