A few bright sunny days ahead with plenty of sunshine tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday and also many areas having sunny spells Friday. It will be cool at night though under clear skies so frosty. Enjoy the sunshine but for those still without power still it’s sadly more cold nights ahead.

Last month, Sen. Deb Fischer's (R-NE) husband refused to shake the Vice President's hand.

Yesterday, he tried to shake Doug Emhoff's hand. The Second Gentleman replied: "Why would you try to shake my hand when you wouldn’t shake my wife’s hand?”

"There are many causes of loneliness and social isolation. One of the biggest is hearing loss. Two-thirds of adults 71 years and older have it, but only one-third use hearing aids. One reason is Medicare doesn’t cover hearing aids. Congress could correct this." From: www.statnews.com/2025/01/18/d...
Dementia risk, higher than thought, requires a national strategy
The risk of developing dementia may be double what was previously thought. But there are things the U.S. can do to help fight that — like turning to the arts.

#speirgorm, our friend, Brian, was kind enough to give me some time to think about this. Typically I would have answered with the first thing that popped into my head and moved on, but this really struck me and I thought it deserved a more serious, considered response. So, here goes.

Great thread and comments in this. Pure solid good sense.
Art should be funded like science. To properly fund art, you fund failure. Funding failure will give you occasional excellence. Creating any art with the aim of it being popular enough to make money, will give you consistent mediocrity. Arists need funding to play and fail because that's the process
Let me tell you about the weird business that delivers art into our lives, and the impact it has on the long-term careers of artists. This is a thread prompted by yet another article on authors' incomes, and the inevitable reactions from the 'people-would-pay-if-it-was-worth-it-to-them' brigade. 1/
