Absolutely not, never the wrong time to try something new! Don’t panic at all. It’s just string. 😊

Just play around with a swatch and see how it feels. Let me know how it goes!

I cannot wrap my head around a Norwegian purl! 😆

I actually just posted a continental video, I’ll tag you in it. I’m betting you just need to find the best way to hold the yarn for you! ☺️

Let me know how it goes!

You should. It’s helpful just in case you need to give one hand a break! I’m about to make a video about Continental so stay tuned!

Neuropathy is no fun. I’m glad you are able to power through and continue to knit colorwork! Knitting is so good for us! ❤️

Thank you! I started it forever ago and am finally finishing up the hat. Hoping to issue a test knit in the few months if you are interested 😊

I was definitely the same until I finally got it down. Felt like writing with my left hand! 😂

For some reason, mine are not as neat. Maybe i leave more yarn traveling between stitches.

Flicking two strands! That is a skill I do not have! 😅

Continental has been an absolute game changer for me for ribbing. The switching back and forth is more smooth and my stitches are tensioned nicely.

No specific pattern recs but I would start flat. In the round will be a breeze.

I’ll post a video later of how I tension the yarn so I’ll tag you ☺️

I forced myself to learn continental purl because my English/flicking purls are sloppy. I was rowing out on a shawl with large sections of stockinette so my advice would be to just knit stockinette flat so you have to do stretches of purl and knits and then get into some ribbing.

Once I unlocked that magic my world opened up!

It’s so funny, isn’t it? We have this ability to make these things, many of which can be complicated. Hold the yarn in a different band? Feels impossible! 😆

The muscle memory is so real. When I teach knitting I try to show both styles so new knitters don’t get locked in.

I’m sure you can! You probably just need to find a way to hold your yarn that feels right! I tried many ways and then found one that clicked for me.

I completely understand! Even though I started with crochet and holding my yarn in the left hand, I could NOT knit continentally. Felt like a foreign language to me! 😆

I’ll do a purl video next and tag you!

Throwing definitely feels more natural to me!
December 1, 2025 at 12:28 PM
That will do it!! Once I learned continental, I’d never do ribbing another way. My purls are so much better.

I really agree with you to pick a project and commit if you want to learn!

Haha, no worries! There are many ??? In knitting! 😆

If you already knit continental, maybe no need but if you want to knit stranded colorwork, it could be helpful for holding a strand in each hand.
December 1, 2025 at 1:52 AM
Do it! Worst case, new skill. It’s great to know both for stranded colorwork.

Eventually I got comfortable with continental. It was weird because I crocheted first but could not knit continental! I was more comfortable with purl but now can knit just as well. I still use all styles depending on the project.
