The Only Company Experiencing An “AI Boom” Is NVIDIA - Everybody Else Is Losing Money - Why Are We Still Buying GPUs? Let’s look at the “biggest companies” in AI, shall we? Anthropic is, allegedly, going to hit $7 billion in annualized revenue ($583 million in a month) in November, and based on my analysis, I’d guess it will end the year with no more than $5 billion in revenue, after spending $2.66 billion just on Amazon Web Services through the end of September and I’d guess a similar amount on Google Cloud. Anthropic burns billions of dollars with no end in sight. Based on my reporting, OpenAI appears to have made $4.329 billion in revenue through the end of September, and spent $8.67 billion on inference alone, with billions more likely in training costs. Cursor, a company that made $83 million in revenue in October 2025, had to raise $2.3 billion in funding this month after raising $900 million in June, and apparently sends, according to what a source told Tom Dotan, 100% of its revenue to Anthropic to pay for its API spend. Where is all the money going, exactly? Probably into paying its horrible costs. Amazon, Google and Meta do not disclose AI revenues. Microsoft stopped disclosing it in January 2025, when it said it had a $13 billion run rate, or around a billion dollars a month. One has to wonder if Microsoft stopped sharing this number because it stopped making that much. Most of that run rate, I note, came from providing compute to OpenAI. Otherwise, as I wrote in the Hater’s Guide To The AI Bubble Volume 2, every AI startup is doing some weird financial gymnastics around “run rate” to avoid saying that they make somewhere between $4.16 million ($50 million annualized) or $16.7 million ($200 million annualized). CoreWeave has billions of dollars of debt and lost $110 million in its last quarter, and the debt markets believe there is a 42% it will default in the next five years.
