Electoral politics as we know it will not lead us out of this. We are too far gone now. Instead, we need to look at the nonviolent paths other countries followed to free themselves from authoritarian regimes. Turn off cable news, turn down social media, and pick up these roadmaps and guidebooks: 1/
Not just the regime. Not just the people who support the regime. My disgust and contempt right now is with the people who just watch it and do nothing, who just hear it and say nothing, who just couldn't be bothered with knowing what is happening.

Let nothing pass. Nothing.

Look, if you go past him giving himself a peace medal, and the first headline about a "peace deal" between Congo and Rwanda, and the second headline about gaining a minerals deal in the Congo in the process, you run right into modern slave labor. Let's just be honest what we're doing here. 1/

The regime has issued new rules specific to digital media experience for H-1B visas, now banning anyone who has worked in content moderation; misinformation and disinformation prevention; fact-checking; and online safety. The ban extends to family members of anyone who has worked in those areas. 1/

So like almost every New Yorker, up to now I wouldn't have been caught dead saying "Avenue of the Americas," we always say "Sixth Avenue" which is what distinguishes natives from tourists, right? But the scales have been lifted from my eyes. 1/

So this afternoon a discussion about DEI with a well-known voice on race and intersectionality devolved from disagreement to termination when she referred to me as "chief," then doubled down when I let her know that I am indigenous (quarter Quechua/Inka, 2nd generation out of the Andes). 1/

Slightly different view of the National Boycott of Target, Home Depot, and Amazon:

Home Depot’s ownership was always right wing extremist, Amazon’s owner became that publicly over time, but I don’t know what we mean or gain by boycotting Target any further than we have already done. 1/

The annotated timelines provided by the Unbreaking @unbreaking.org project are absolutely brilliant, documenting our descent into authoritarianism across key issues like data security, immigration, food safety, medical research.
The fight against authoritarianism has many fronts. At Unbreaking, we choose to work against information overload and for collective understanding. On our Immigration timeline, we track major and representative events from across the US—now filterable by legal case:

Very smart.

Let's start by shutting down Visitor Relationship Managers (VRMs) e.g. Admiral that block access to people using privacy shields, falsely accusing them of blocking ads. Let's put pressure on publishers (I say this as a former publisher) to stay with an ad model and not a data model.
The threats to digital civil liberties aren’t secret rooms in AT&T buildings anymore. They’re AI systems, data brokers, and privatized surveillance sold as products.

The EFF has spent 35 years fighting for rights and freedoms. Here’s my take on how it should evolve to fight back.
The EFF we need now
Why the next era of digital civil liberties requires a tighter mission, a bolder strategy, and a clearer view of how power works.

This is absolutely true. The American Marine Le Pen
A lot of the people lamenting Marjorie Taylor Greene’s departure from Congress—and celebrating her as some kind of principled maverick—are going to end up eating their words when she reemerges in 2028 to help lead a pro-groper, pro-Fuentes “America First” faction of the GOP.
