Reminded that the same people that pushed the idea that Covid was not transmitted by kids in schools and if they did it didn’t matter anyway because kids aren’t affected by COVID and those kids that were affected had underlying health factors also felt vaccination was dangerous…

No assertion from this administration should be presented as fact unless independently verified
Headlines like this are extremely dangerous. Because moms of young kids are the people who make the bulk of the vaccine decisions for famillies. And for a lot of them, "reading the news" looks like scrolling past headlines on social media in the spare moments of the chaos of caring for kids.

part of the reason i am genuinely irritated with the gAI/AGI cult is because there is real societal benefits in using ML techniques in medical care + weather analysis, and instead people get annoyed with anything that gets lumped in with the plagiarism machine
We could save soooo many lives but people are so caught up in their reactionary moral panic nonsense

Love having a show to watch with tween and get chance to listen to him tell me the characters he likes/dislikes and the judgments he applies to plot twists etc. When I was a kid my dad would patiently listen to me take issue with something and then say ‘it happened because it’s in the script’ …

The Pathways Alliance project would inevitably be a massive boondoggle if it ever gets built. It’s only purpose is to greenwash the oil industry and deceive Canadians into thinking we can be a clean petrostate.
Carney's latest pipedream explained
Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to see the Pathways Alliance project built in exchange for a new oil pipeline to the BC coast — a risky bet on the country’s economic future.

one reason "great power competition" is a bad description of the emerging order is that an interlinked global kleptocracy does not care about national interests or rivalries
Extraordinary WSJ reporting today that unveils the extent to which Trump, Witkoff, Kushner and US business executives are salivating over business deals with Russia while Putin’s forces kidnap Ukranian children and bomb civilians in their apartments.

Said it 1000x but the 2021 documentary The Line about the push to exonerate Eddie Gallagher is so illuminating about what has/was fought to be empowered in military and now is embodied in hegseth. Could likely draw a direct line of descent

I hate that my first instinct was to wonder whether this picture of the Pope holding a baseball bat on a plane was generated by AI. #newnornal #sensemaking

I've seen some of this, although I wouldn't say its universal. What is definitely true imo is that LLMs--combined with bloated class sizes and other issues--are making it very easy for students to pass classes without doing, reading, or learning a single thing. And this is true for *any* subject.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.
