Just saw someone on a motorcycle fist pump because they got through the light before it turned red. (He was the last one that did)
It made me smile.
It also reminded me to celebrate the little things.

SCOOP: You've heard about the NIH terminating grants. I've learned of another, less visible way it's disrupting science: It’s removing some applications from peer review. Not rejecting them, but putting them on hold without saying why or if they'll ever be reviewed. www.chronicle.com/article/the-...
The Quiet Way the NIH Is Stalling Some Research Before It Starts
A number of grant proposals have disappeared from scientists’ review pipelines, with little explanation. Applicants are bewildered and frustrated.

Working on my daily goal of not panicking at all the terrifying news regarding international academics.
two men are talking to each other and one of them is saying `` i 'm fine `` .

It appears that the overarching UM grant for the Utah Clinical and Translational Science Awards was terminated. It is no longer in NIH Reporter.

Here is the abstract. Too much focus on health equity, health disparities, and underserved populations...

Another obscenity...

NIH grants peeps are working hard, on a Sunday night, trying to get our grants out to us as their world is in chaos.

We owe them all a huge debt.

Science peeps: be sure to send your grants personnel (grants management, POs and SROs) a note of encouragement and gratitude.

The Bible as merch.

Bibles from $99-$1000 for Trump signed Bibles...

I am dumbstruck that so many religiously minded folks do not see the irony and the problems with this.

I mean, I remember in church growing up that they warned us about people like this. The stories of Jesus and the temple, etc.

I'm shocked that more people have not been killed, these fires moved so fast.

But these people's homes. Their lives. Pictures. Keepsakes. Memories.

The classic cars in some of those homes...
I’m in the Pacific Palisades today for work. The scale of the destruction here is pretty mind boggling.

They're already going after public libraries. My library is joint use, both public and college, and I'm counting the days until they come after us as well. I'm ordering transgressive books as fast as I can, but there's only so much I can do.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has been quietly closing down school libraries, often in the poorest neighborhoods, after replacing elected school officials with people he’s appointed.
