The Lviv opera in a war darkened city, waiting to know what fate the US and Russia are trying to impose on Ukraine. The US delegation in Kyiv is holding rhe candle for Russia.

In my opinion, the most important book yet on this century's worst epidemic. See notably chapter 7 on the origins of the COVID 19 virus. The geopolitics of the pandemic have yet to fully play out. A highly convincing work.

A remarkable book by Williamson Murray from 1984 with some useful lessons for the present day West even in a nuclear context. Alliances founded on trust key, institutional integrity (military and strategic)is vital, as is the integration of policy- and strategy-making, and access to global markets.

See the chapter on the Trump-Putin Diktat imposed on Ukraine in Budapest under the auspices of Viktor Orbán. Not pretty

A great smorgasbord of strategic thinking in the latest issue of Survival. Key words: time is of the essence. The piece on "NATO's vulnerable space assets" is ground-breaking (@IanBowers & Henrik Stålhane Hiim) re the baleful consequences for Europe of 🇨🇳space operations in a Taiwan crisis.

Trump reaffirms article 5 but doesn't answer Dutch media question on how he interprets it. Much time spent at 45 minute presser on the outcome of Iran operations. Spain was threatened with trade retaliation for refusing the 5% commitment (which he expects to benefit US military hardware sales)

For the time being, this is the best of several post-US campaign book I've read. The Epilogue is particularly useful to figure out why things turned out the way they did.

So three countries with 3 different moves: too early to talk about peak-populism even if pro-European mainstream made a huge comeback in Romania 🇷🇴. Poland 🇵🇱 will be tricky
