Interviewed the amazing activist Jerry Afriyie about the campaign against 'Black Pete' in the Netherlands - they wrapped up the campaign because the racist charicature is exit! Story soon in a US outlet. #KOZP

That's a checkpoint in #Hebron, where I was earlier this month. Chilling to see how illegal settlers are eating away at this Palestinian city on the #Westbank from within. Read my dispatch from the ground! fgeerdink.substack.com/p/illegal-se...

Went for a 4 day group hike in the Atlas Mountains in #Morocco with friend Jen. Well, I took one day off to rest (and work) because it was rather hard to be honest for a person from a flat country - but spectacular and great!

Zéker!

Palestinian journalist Mustafa Ayyash will be handed over to Austria, a court in the Netherlands decided today. That's by the book, but against justice, I write in my latest Substack post. Read and share! open.substack.com/pub/fgeerdin...

Next stop! Will hike in the Atlas mountains for a day or five, with a friend from NYC. If you don't wanna cross the US border, you gotta meet elsewhere, right?

Rachel's tomb crossing (often closed because Palestinians don't get permits to go to #Jerusalem via this crossing anymore anyway) in #Bethlehem was designed by a company that specializes in driving cattle through farm systems. Horrendous and bone chilling. #Palestine

An #apartheid wall meandering through the landscape, with sunset. #Palestine

With Anja Meulenbelt, after an evening of really very good conversation, and a drink or two. <3

At a major Dutch newsroom to talk about my book "Alle journalistiek is activisme" and how it applies and could apply to their work. libris.nl/a/frederike-...

Have been keeping this little portrait in my wallet since the day of his funeral, 23 January 2007. Now bought a frame and put him on a shelf in home office. #HrantDink

Haha, Kaj Leers begon zijn werkdag om 8.31 met mij blocken :-) Gaat liever badinerend achter Lahlah aan dan achter het schuim der aarde.

"Fascism is not in the public interest", I had to explain to a colleague in #journalism recently. He wasn't convinced. Now on my Substack! fgeerdink.substack.com/p/fascism-is...

#Nijmegen university, "Day of the writer's #biography". Totally new genre for me, and it's inspiring and slightly terrifying. I am planning to be a biographer, but the real work will start only in a couple of years, I hope (for the life of my subject must last longer). (That's not Jacob Cats)

Free free Palestine! 250K people in Amsterdam! Red line demo but around me most people are in black - me too, with red shawl.

Een vriendin kreeg dit berichtje van een collega die niet wist dat zij en ik bevriend zijn. "Jaaa", antwoordde ze :-)))

Since Jan 2020, I wrote and managed a paid newsletter, Expert Kurdistan. I sent it out every single Sunday, with hardly any exceptions. But after almost 300 editions, it was time to say goodbye. I thanked my loyal subscribers today. Rational decision, but emotional to execute!

It's my 55th birthday today and it seems like I'm having dinner alone but I'm not: I'm in excellent company. Feminist writer Renate Dorrestein really inspired me when I was an adolescent, and later with her hilarious, brilliant, absurd fiction. To you, Renate! Te paard!

On the way to #bookclub, where my own book will come under scrutiny tonight 😬 We usually do literature and the women in the club professionaly work in literature so they won't spare me if necessary. I have prepared a question too, page 77 :-) Bring it on!

Heel interessant en helder inderdaad. Oók over de rol van #media en #journalisten. Mag ik daarbij aantekenen dat mijn boek een net zo heldere duik is in waarom media de macht vaak volgen ipv bevragen? Lezen! libris.nl/a/frederike-...
