I have friends in academia - US expats to both Europe and Canada, as well as just regular Canadian academics and all report that they're already seeing this happen, some are indeed themselves part of the trend.

One minor example of this trend being reversed is @timothysnyder.bsky.social moving to Canada and taking up employ with University of Toronto.

As a binational EU and Canadian citizen who actively lives in both Europe and Canada, I agree. In fact, I see no reason Canada couldn't apply for EU membership. We do share a land border with Canada on Hans Island after all, not that that's even a prerequisite.

To me, on the face of it, that seems like an obvious throughline that I, not infrequently, wonder about. I am, however, just a layperson (who loves visiting CH, because you know, it's gorgeous) and I get that I may well just have wandered far into the weeds with these thoughts.

Thank you. Got it. I am more curious about how CH banking legislation allows for the rise of some portion of the billionaire broligarchs who then, one could easily imagine, turn their eye to these off-shoring countries for their other im- or amoral activities. I wonder if there's research on this.
