#NowPlaying Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells A Story (1971) The LP that propelled Rod into the stratosphere. A mix of well chosen covers and collaborations. Rod makes the covers his own - the sign of a definitive performance. Best track - I'm Losing You #VinylCommunity

This copy of R. Dean Taylor's Indiana Wants Me (1971) has a slight issue. Can anyone spot it?

Note to self: pay more attention when buying record collections.

#NowPlaying #LoveItOrListIt The Association - Greatest Hits (1968) Siper tight Californian-sun six piece vocal harmony group with hits in styles ranging from very 60's sunshine pop to requiem. Recently bought as part of a small collection, but should it stay or should it go? #VinylCommunity

#NowPlaying Cat Stevens - Teaser And The Firecat (1971) First listen. There was a time when I wouldn't have given Cat the time of day but now his spiritual, soul-searching folk seems to chime more resonantly. I'm more Cat Power than Cat Stevens still but this is very good indeed. #VinylCommunity

#NowPlaying @thesmiletheband.bsky.social The Smile - Cutouts (2024) This isn't so much Math Rock, more Algebra Rock - there's so many things going on. My favourite from a band that seem to operating on a higher plane to their contemporaries. Best track - Colours Fly #VinylCommunity

#NowPlaying #albumoftheday Wunderhorse - Cub (2022) Got this after being impressed by their 2024 Reading set. Dynamic and varied indie rock with a punchy production. Many of the songs are riddled with hooks that grab you by the ears and refuse to let go. Best track - Purple #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Booker T & The MGs - Melting Pot (1970) We lost Steve Cropper last week so this is a timely new arrival. New decade, same sound. Totally realised extended rootsy soul/blues workouts. Kinda Easy Like is the standout jam with quintessential summer of love easy listening vocalised chorus.

#NowPlaying @arloparks.music-social.com Arlo Parks - Collapsed In Sunbeams (2021) This debut was released following some teasing singles. Smooth relationship songs. Arlo wears her big, poetic heart on her sleeve. One to watch - so young so much talent. Best track - Black Dog #MusicSky

#NowPlaying #albumoftheday John Grant - Queen Of Denmark (2010) New to me although I've heard many of the tracks out in the wild. The caramel voice of John Grant is an incredible instrument and is perfectly suited to the soft rock/Randy Edelman style material. Best track - Chicken Bones #MusicSky
December 7, 2025 at 9:50 AM
#NowPlaying Ash - Intergalactic Sonic 7"s (2002) 41-track singles and b-sides compilation. High energy pop punk from a prodigious band that discovered a rich vein of hits. Consistent and faithful to a formula. They seldom stray from love and pop culture as inspirations but hey - good times #MusicSky

#NowPlaying #albumoftheday Marvin Gaye - Live (1998) A recent 25p find. No information on where and when this was recorded, maybe late 70's? Gaye was such a powerful and mesmerising performer. The crowd go absolutely wild in places. Best track - Sexual Healing 🎵Go home and make babies🎵 #MusicSky

#NowPlaying Nicole Dollanganger - Observatory Mansions (2014) 25p charity shop find that just looked interesting. Ambient lo-fi indie pop. Breathy vocals like Gabrielle Aplin. Sparse instrumentation and little in the way of percussion. The songs stand up even with this isolationist stance. #MusicSky

#5debutalbums7074 Labi Siffre - Labi Siffre (1970) A new decade and fresh face on the folk scene. Siffre pens 10 of the 12 tracks and covers Nilsson and a cracking version of Words by the Brothers Gibb. Understated orchestral backing gives a rich arrangement. Tidy debut LP. #VinylCommunity

#5debutalbums7074 #albumoftheday John Holt - A Love I Can Feel (1970) One of reggae's foremost crooners. Ideal couples dance music, whether in Kingston JA, Brixton LDN, or the local scout hut Christmas disco. Best track - Make Up #VinylCommunity

#5debutalbums7074 Eric Burdon & War - Eric Burdon Declares War (1970) Unique collaboration that has a 'jamming in the studio' feel to it. Great jazz-rich blues and a smattering of latin with gravelly lead vocals from Burdon. Wild harmonica. Not sure if this counts but it was War's first I think.

#5debutalbums7074 George McCrae - Rock Your Baby (1974) The title track, with it's metronomic drum machine, was the first song I thought of as 'disco'. Ah, those smoky Tuesday nights at the Waterlooville WACA disco. Great music but the constant threat of mindless violence. #GoodTimes #MusicSky
December 2, 2025 at 4:47 PM
#5debutalbums7074 David Essex - Rock On (1973) There is half of an innovative pop album here with the sparsely arranged singles and some other tracks, but there's also some dated 50's rock 'n' roll throwbacks and a bit of filler. #NowPlaying #MusicSky
December 2, 2025 at 4:43 PM
#5debutalbums7074 ELO - Electric Light Orchestra (1971) It sounds like ELO heard Eleanor Rigby and thought we could make a career out of this. Quite avant garde in places, though, and genuinely an interesting idea, but doesn't get played one tenth as much as New World Record. #NowPlaying #MusicSky
December 2, 2025 at 4:36 PM
#5debutalbums7074 Nebuchadnezzar & The Pharoahs - Reggae, Willing & Able (1970) Obscure moog driven reggae. I suspect these guys were session players but man they absolutely smoke on this. Think Booker T & The MGs, but reggae. #NowPlaying #MusicSky
December 2, 2025 at 11:52 AM
#5debutalbums7074 #albumoftheday Bruce Springsteen - Greetings From Asbury Park NJ (1973) Inspirational, to Bowie amongst others, debut from The Boss. Seemingly arriving fully formed, stepping off the bus, guitar in hand, hope in his blue-collar heart. Best track - Blinded By The Light. #MusicSky
December 2, 2025 at 11:43 AM
#5debutalbums7074 The Faces - First Step (1970) Sounding for all the world like a group of mates jamming in a rehearsal room. The Faces debut is a slightly faltering set of songs as the band finds its feet. A mix of songwriters makes for a charming, if undisciplined playlist. Enjoyable. #MusicSky
December 2, 2025 at 11:37 AM
#NowPlaying Janelle Monáe - The Archandroid (2010) New to me following a reccomendation on here. An RnB concept album stretching over 70 minutes ranging from the funk of Tightrope to the bubbling, effervescent pop thrill of Wondaland via corale breather '57821'. Promising first play. #MusicSky
December 1, 2025 at 5:59 PM
#5debutalbums7074 Augustus Pablo - This Is Augustus Pablo (1974) There is nothing to match the sound of a melodica with heavy reverb and Pablo cornered the market. Instrumental rock steady with heavy dub, which sets a relaxed mood as the sun sets here. Innovative. #MusicSky
