Install the app on your phone or computer (I use Windscribe cos it's cheap) and it will present you with a list of countries. It doesn't really matter which you choose. It should then show you that it's connected. Then just use your phone/computer as normal and everything should work.

It encrypts your internet use by routing it through a server somewhere else in the world. (You can choose from hundreds of different locations or pick one randomly.) They are really useful and not just for grot - it's much safer connecting to potentially dodgy public wi-fi with one, for instance.
