Hoping this place might even partially live up to the hype of being like Irish Twitter c.2010 cos I loved that place.
Dublin, politics, history, random interesting stuff, football, the world.
I suppose I should say Labour Party member, for transparency.
If I was Scottish and met this racist numpty I would simply channel every Scottish colloquialism and word of Scots or even Gaelic I’d ever heard and make myself incomprehensible to him.
A: Who gives a fuck apart from racists?

B: His figure is wrong. 71.2% of Glaswegian children speak English as their first language.

C: So that's 28.8% who speak it as a second and I'll bet you they speak brilliant English and that it's much better than most Reform voters I've met online.

it's wild how the positive use cases are like "save 5 minutes reading a long doc" and "write a generic email faster" and the negative use cases are "get encouraged to dive deeper in psychosis, misogyny, or suicidal thoughts" and we're still on the fence about overall value
New from 404 Media: ChatGPT told a violent stalker to continue running his misogynistic and threat-filled podcast despite the “haters,” and to visit more gyms to find women. The man stalked women in multiple states, including touching and following from work

Oh goody
You can get ChatGPT to help you build a nuclear bomb if you simply design the prompt in the form of a poem, according to a new study from researchers in Europe. www.wired.com/story/poems-...

It turns out all the guardrails in the world won’t protect a chatbot from meter and rhyme.

Mwah ha ha ha ha did they not realise that their key customer base is penny pinching people who will make their own lives less convenient just to save €2.50 by flying to somewhere further away… they’re obviously going to max out any discount or freebie going. They probably had spreadsheets.

This is almost word for word what xenophobes in the 1930s and 1940s said about Miller's Jewish ancestors and relatives. He's so hateful he couldn't possibly recognize that of course.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

I’ve a slightly different, though overlapping, list of things making me feel insane. But this sums up the feeling very well.
this week's newsletter is titled "aren't you tired of feeling insane all the time?" and I think it speaks for itself

it is also free to read

Cans of (Christmas) beer apparently look like containers of coins on X-ray??? (Pre liquid ban)

& a perfectly normal torch (going somewhere prone to electricity cuts) looked like ammunition and apparently tested positive for explosive residue…🤷‍♀️

Both incidents Frankfurt airport over a decade apart.
Here’s a tip: if you’re travelling with a cowbell and laptop adaptors in hand luggage, don’t put the adaptors inside the cowbell because that looks suspicious.

And an extra tip from my cousin Charlotte - be careful about travelling with a pack of polenta too. Also looks dodgy.

Was watching some old TOTP from 1998 and I’ve had the revelation that Farage and Reform and all the rest of the gammon think they’re in the Three Lions on a Shirt video but actually they’re in the Vindaloo video (which I’d quite forgotten existed).

And don’t get me started on Bewitched.

What they don’t say in articles lauding these schemes (of which there are obviously nowhere near enough for the couples/families looking for them) is that a single person has to be earning over about 45k NET to meet the rent criteria. What are single people earning average incomes supposed to do?
