I am a climate scientist, focused on paleoclimate, sea level change and the evolution of Quaternary glaciations.

I reconstruct ice sheets using glacial isostatic adjustment and ice sheet modelling. In Japan but have been all over the place. 🇨🇦🇯🇵🇦🇺🇩🇪🇸🇪
The 60-65,000 years ago window makes the most sense since that was the peak of the MIS 4 glaciation. By 50,000 years ago, sea level rose by 20-30 m.

Are people actually making that take? Truly they must know nothing about the history of Scientific Reports.

Scientific Reports is basically on par with an MDPI journal. There is no filter. No serious scientist should publish there.

That is the con of Scientific Reports. But Scientific Reports has always published sketchy papers. It shows a certain amount of vanity that people publish there to convince themselves that it is in that tier.

It isn't a Nature journal paper. It is Scientific Reports.

It still boggles my mind that Nature chooses to defile their brand by having Scientific Reports under their umbrella. I guess money means everything.

I thought it was questionable long before this. I feel embarrassed that people still publish stuff there.

I always say that without DEI, a merit based system of advancement cannot exist. It is little wonder that the unworthy people in power attack DEI with such vigour.

It is not surprising when you find out how much of the advancement in academia is through networking, marketing and the perception of prestige (a PHD from Harvard is worth more than one from a small public school).

In Japan, if you are sick or have some other problem on the day of the university entrance exams, it affects you for your entire life because you can only do it once. It is a deeply flawed system.

The producers of Humans did consult with experts to make sure things were as scientifically and historically accurate as possible.
