As Carmen Hurtado put it: “In Europe, we have two options: wait, or act now. Preparing now will be crucial to ensure healthcare systems are ready to deploy DMTs.”
DMTs have huge potential. We must support researchers and work together to make sure they reach people with diabetes as soon as possible.

In fact, @ema.europa.eu has just recommended the approval of the first-ever treatment to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes (lnkd.in/eiiwdRgu).

Since then, #insulin has saved millions of lives and remains the cornerstone of diabetes treatment. Yet, despite clinical and technological advances, diabetes continues to place a heavy burden on people living with it and their families.

📙In our EUDF Shadow CV Plan, we call for a comprehensive, integrated approach to preventing, diagnosing, and treating cardiometabolic diseases - diabetes, obesity, and CVD. Tackling these conditions together is the only way to drive real change and improve the health of people across Europe.

We were honoured to welcome MEP Romana Jerković, Rapporteur for the European Parliament’s report on an EU Cardiovascular Diseases Strategy. She emphasised the interconnection between CVD, diabetes, and other cardiometabolic conditions - and the need for the Plan to reflect this reality.
