"Is this budget actually just what your MPs want (bad)" I ask in a parliamentary democracy, with a level of critical analysis only entrusted to the BBC's Political Editor

Amid the news being quite a grim this read this morning (/year), this from @stephenkb.bsky.social made me legitimately laugh out loud.

The thing that will save BBC (News) is empowering it to be a critically thinking institution, which produces significant journalism. Ceding rightward by pretending balance = avoiding truth will only give destructive power to those who've always wanted it. Cf. @stephenkb.bsky.social on.ft.com/49LUprv

Absolutely excellent, eviscerating piece (as usual from Lewis). Explains perfectly (1) though sloppy editing Newsnight merely stated a true fact that Trump caused Jan 6th; (2) how a culture of fear of the right wing political class and super rich has caused an institutional capture by stealth

I'm sorry but EDI groups are worth defending against the supposed moral superiority of 'promoting all views equally!'

"Minorities should be able to organise against discrimination in the workplace" is just simply not an opinion that should be protected co-equally with "no they shouldn't".

I really don't think the scale of change coming to the British political landscape in the May Senedd and Scottish Parliament elections has been properly appreciated.

Today's UK. Race riots and immigrants choosing to flee. A cultural failure to eviscerate fascism and racism; media and politics constantly amplifying anti-immigrant narratives; and a government clearly not on top of hate crime, paramilitaries, organised fascism, and evil organised on social media.

The irony of course is that Robert has a successful youtube channel and one wonders if that is a case of reverse nepotism

One could theoretically make a luddite argument against net zero (based on job losses, risk of poverty w/o just transition etc.) but anti net-zero tories are obviously not making that. Badenoch is friendly with the US anti-climate pro-oil dark money and they hate young people.

Anyway here's Ned.

The Luddites were a working class movement (led by a mythical man in a dress no less) who destroyed machinery and killed factory owners to protect wages in the face of mechanisation and the replacement of artisans with children in factories.

Reactionary Tories are simply not the same!
