To be fair, the Manchester-London route is fucking awful anywhere near peak. Sweaty sardine cans that are more likely than not to miss your connection. This is putting a train worth of riders out of their misery.

Too bad no one has put forward a plan to increase capacity on the route.

This was intended to be a junior-friendly conference, too. The acceptance rate was at least 70%. There were just some abstracts we weren't particularly confident about.

The time I organized flash talks into a conference, we did it with the intention of giving people interested in attending access to their institution's travel funds (that is, they could tell their department they were speakers).

I hate polling questions like this because there is a fundamental ambiguity in "America" between the government and the people.

Very possible that the 30% who view America favorably are interpreting the question as being about Americans. And speaking as one, we are ... fine.
