I’m in Doha for the World Summit on Sustainable Development. If you are too, see you in that building? Media release with our key messages from @fingo.fi here (in Finnish 🇫🇮). Basically, (1) equality and human rights in social policy and (2) investment. #WSSD2025 #WSSD2 fingo.fi/ajankohtaist...

Facebook keeps recommending me pages from the US Dept of Labor, and I have to admit, I am grimly fascinated.

I could not love this article by @stephenkb.bsky.social more. 💯 to the key message of “stop trying to dick around with fertility and work with the world as it is”.
And I LOVE this section⬇️.
FYI Kenya is on track to publish shadow national accounts that include care. Ihttps://on.ft.com/4hvwZIT

I think my confusion must be a Finnish v British thing - in Finland, public education is a core mission of museums. (Declaration of interest, I go to such events! Pic of audience listening to climate researcher through lit up headphones).

Post you from a different era.

Here I am, in 1992 in a deadline crisis. Which is very different to me in 2025, in a deadline crisis.

Hmm hmm hmm here’s me just choosing my 2025 seasonal tea advent calendar. I do love me some flavoured tea. I wasn’t going to pay €15 for 24 over-packaged teabags but now you’ve provoked my contrarian side.

Mariah Carey hasn’t even started defrosting yet! What is going on, people?

Frankly at this stage I am inclined to vote for anyone, of any party, who could plausibly promise to get
threats of violence out of politics. From Aaron Banks interview with Anna Gross in @financialtimes.com

Ghastly selfie at UNGA 2 years ago but my reminder to self is that 2 yrs ago we got good language agreed on universal health coverage. A lot has changed since then but it will continue to change in the next two years and more, and we are not powerless outside America.

Puzzled by why the “Unite the Kingdom” racists are carrying the flag of Georgia (a country I am keen to visit but surprised it’s on their radar apart from the red and white colour scheme).

When I am more on the same page with H&M about the need for safe and dignified routes for migration, than I am with either of the governments I pay taxes to.

I am shocked, shocked, that Labour did not give a role to a competent woman but went with a man that they felt, just, well, felt like he had the edge

like it took me half an hour to express to a friend what I found so insulting in this statement ⬇️. It clearly feels like an insult to gay men I have worked alongside in child safeguarding work, but more than that. Something so wrong with this statement but I can’t pinpoint it.

Anyone concerned with gender equality needs to watch how the current fertility panic is tending. See this in the comments of the article below - and not the only one, just the most reasonably expressed. Gilead can be brought about by people wearing the most reasonable looking business suits.

My husband’s colleagues gifted him an axe as a leaving gift. Reading up about this special axe, I see it sells itself on reducing the risk of hitting the foot. Not eliminating of course, that would be ridiculous. Just a reminder that social niceties in Finland are different, I guess.

I’ve spent a couple of decades shrieking “not an earth mother” so that I don’t get inveigled into endless bake sales and babysitting but I am eagerly awaiting my crone years. As evidenced by the insane amount of berry prep I have done this year. #CronePathway

To make matters worse I have discovered that they sell it in premix miniatures. For the pre-parties, I guess.

Or rather, the strategic use of humiliation is familiar tool in the kit of those of us used to negotiating from a position of weakness. It’s only real humiliation if you let it be. Losing control of your emotions so that humiliation drives your strategy only entrenches your weakness. As Ibsen knew.

I don’t know who writes the texts for the Finnish nature identification website Luontoportti but I could read this site like a novel. Sometimes quite a scary one. luontoportti.com/en/t/228/cow...
